- System of a Down (also referred to as SOAD or System) is a four-piece alternative metal band that formed in 1995.
Their name was inspired by a poem written by band member Daron Malakian entitled "Victims of a Down" (commonly mistaken for what is written on the back of their first album). Fellow band member Serj Tankian felt that "System" was a much stronger word[citation needed].
All four members are of Armenian descent and are widely known for their outspoken social and political views found in many of their songs. System of a Down is a part of the Axis of Justice, a non-profit organization formed by Tankian and Tom Morello that is dedicated to bringing together musicians, music fans and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice. Major hits include "Chop Suey", "Toxicity", "Aerials", "B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Bomb)", "Question!", and "Hypnotize".

Serj's new year letter
Hello Everyone,
First and foremost I hope everyone had a great holiday season and a great new year. I am writing this to you from my residence in New Zealand. I felt it was appropriate to write this from here because I have HUGE news for ALL of my fans (especially for those of you in Australia and New Zealand).
As many of you know I am playing Big Day Out this year, plus some solo shows with special shows w/ very special guests Fantomas. But the reason I am writing this letter is to tell you that I am doing a ONCE IN A LIFETIME show with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra.
On Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Auckland Town Hall I will be collaborating with Auckland’s most loved orchestra. I will be playing songs from Elect The Dead and some unreleased extras. All the songs will be reinterpreted to fit with the orchestra, as the F.C.C. will not be playing this show with me. It’s just the orchestra and I; the arrangements for the orchestra were made by respected New Zealand composer John Psathas.
I'm elated to have the opportunity to arrange my songs from Elect the Dead for a full orchestra with the APO. The arrangements will be quite different than those on the record including bonus tracks never played live, and John Psathas will be helping me outfit my string arrangements for the full orchestra. We'll also be taping the performance for a worldwide DVD release later in the year. Yes for real, we will be putting this out on DVD0 comentarios 328 días

i think ive posted somthing about this before.
but the band wanted to have a break and explore there own ideas in music , which couldnt be done if they stayed together. im pretty sure they said it wasnt a premanent thing.
and emma im sure all of us hope they get back together soon ,.
yeah and i hope there comeback will be supported by all of uswith open arms.

SOAD FOR Eurovision 2009?
World renowned Armenian-American rock band System Of A Down has expressed interest in representing Armenia in next year's Eurovision song contest to be hosted in Russia.
Serj Tankian, the group's lead singer, recently said that the group would consider performing in Eurovision only if they would be allowed to use Eurovision as a means to advance the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
"Eurovision would be an excellent way to make this theme known. We must seriously think of this." Tankian said.
System Of A Down, which has been advocating for Armenian Genocide recognition since its early garage band days is noted for the liberal political views expressed in their songs. The band's music tackles a myriad subjects including War, corruption, religion, drug use, censorship, human rights violations, and Genocide.
