bad id-ears...
i'm sure some of you may have heard by now, but something happened to me on Friday morn. something bad. something i never want to experience in my lifetime ever again.
yep, you guessed it - my earring somehow managed to embed itself inside my earlobe. nice. first thoughts on glancing in the mirror went something like "where the feck has my earring gone?!". i figured the stud had broken off, so tried to pull the post out the back... bad idea. when i realised that there was actually a lump of gold in my ear, panic stations set in. there was no way i could push the earring out the front again - believe me i tried - i was going to have to seek the advice and capable hands of someone more equipped than i...
having to wait three hours to see the nurse had me starting to think that maybe it wouldn't be so bad have a foreign member under my skin for the rest of my life... but a chai steamer, choir rehearsal and dander round Botanic gardens later and i was ready to blast that bugger the feck out of my body. i will not discuss here the goo and blood, but suffice to say that the doctor had to pull the earring out the BACK of my ear, through that which it was never born to go. it wasn't so bad though, i didn't scream obscenities or faint so all in all i count that as a success. i've never been so relieved in my life! but now i'm on frigging antibiotics.
see if i end up with cauliflower ears, someone is going to swing.
and now to top it all i can't even get the frigging earring out of my other ear because the butterfly is caught! grr.

en irlande du sud
Dublin was fun! opened my eyes to many things, ie. how there are always at least two 46As at the same time, the quasi-epidemic shortage of plastic bags, the way in which Bulmers tastes like watered down Magners, the sheer sexiness of a southern accent... but we all knew that last bit already.
night one included a venture to a pub called Doyles, where a ceili was being had, because they always ceili in Dublin. being brought back to my first year days of Irish Heritage where holding hands with sweaty boys was not a good "ting", i enjoyed the yells of "amach.. isteach!" perhaps too much. thankfully for all present i did not dance. my recollections of the Waves of Tory are a little too sketchy i think. then we ran for the bus, went back to Aoife's for a beer, observed the cat lady's house which has 3 tesco trollies in the yard and a beezer car from 1989, and hit the 24 hour bowling alley across the road. i blew bubbles i bought from the pound [sorry, euro] shop all the way there. it was immense. however, racing a motor bike whilst wearing a skirt and slightly inebriated is not something i would recommend. although i did win...
the following day, much to my excitement, i was able to peruse the wonders of H+M [which will be happening probably all too often now that it has been opened in Belfast...] to the disdain of a tired Aoife and a broke Erin, and bought an awesome shirt. it really is awesome. then we went to a Dunnes Stores cafe. it seems everywhere i go, if there is a Dunnes cafe, i have to try it out. it's like a curse. and this one was more of a bloody restaurant with menus and table service and everything! [note to self: be more grateful for dossiness of job] i was not amused however when they brought me penne pasta with bacon in it when i clearly requested vegetarian. and i was even less amused when the actual vegetarian dish they then brought was plastered to the high heavens with mushrooms. luckily Erin is an ambassador for the plight of mushrooms, and ate them all.
after blinding ourselves with the lights down the sides of the escalators and buying matching christmas socks, we decided it was time to take me to the museum. unfortunately, despite several near death experiences in several desperate bids to cross several Dublin crossroads ['how do you think i felt, i was two seconds behind Grace and all i heard was the biker yelling "bloody hell!"'], by the time we reached the museum it was closed. but relief was had in the fact that a) we had actually found the museum, and b) the 46A bus stop was right beside it. the general consensus was then to run after a bus and go home. i feel i should mention that we ran a lot in Dublin, and most of it unnecessarily. anyone who knows me knows how much i hate running. i blame Aoife.
on arriving back in Sillorgan [and after collectively stalking a rather pretty fellow who got off the same stop as us] we headed to tesco where i experienced the confusing and possibly quite fun self service scanners. i successfully found the stock cubes and rosemary so [but not before heading to the off licence where Arek the Polish till attendant was nearing first name terms with us], we made our way back to the house with a feast to prepare. and what a feast it was! rosemary and garlic roasted potatoes, parsnips and carrots with roast chicken and an amazing gravy with a summer fruits kopparberg in hand. after getting over the inital disagreement of who would get which placemat [Erin insisted on Wilde, so i had to settle for Joyce] we started off a rather nice evening. more drinks were had, more music listened too and more "never have i ever" games ensued. my eyes were opened to the mysteries of lesbian sex [not in that way you perve!] and i found out who had dated someone with four letters in their name. on discovering that for some reason or other i could not get drunk despite the largess of beer and cider i had consumed, we decided it was time for bed.
