- ALL WORKSHOPS ARE SELLING OUT QUICKLY - BOOK NOW!
As we move into our 8th year we are honoured to have artists from over 50 countries taking part in this year’s exciting event that aims to build a positive response to integration, nurturing respect and understanding through the arts. As in previous years the picturesque coastal town of Dún Laoghaire will be transformed as artists and audiences alike - a staggering 250,000 in 2007 - descend on the town for 3 days of cultural celebration.
The full programme for the 2008 Festival of World Cultures is now on line. This year’s Festival offers a cultural cavalcade of music and arts, with a stellar line-up of headline musical acts including the infectious rhythms of Tiken Jah Fakoly, the etheral Sa Dingding, the legendary Ethiopiques, the original salsamuffin architect Sergent Garcia and the exquisite Yungchen Lhamo.

- San Dingding, Yungchen Lhamo, Éthiopiques, Orchestre National de Barbes, Banaya - West African Griots, Seu Jorge, Balkan Beat Box, Liam O' MAonlaí, Kila, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Sergent Garcia, Samba da Rua & O'Neill Pipe Band, Bridgy, Dakhabrakha, Jorges Reyes, Lobsang Dargye, Fanfare Piston, Ojemba
- Stop the Rumours!
- Just to stop some rumours that have been going around-This years Festival of World Cultures is NOT cancelled. The confusion came from an interview done on RTE in which clips of the flooding around the country and some cancelled events were shown. This clip was then followed by an interview with our Production Manager stating that we are prepared for the weather conditions and that at the moment all events are going ahead as scheduled.

DUN LAOGHAIRE - OUR TOWN
For 3 celebratory days in August (22nd - 24th), Dún Laoghaire becomes 'your town' as you enjoy 'your Festival'. So please enjoy it responsibly and treat Dún Laoghaire and its residents with special consideration and appreciation for letting us all have a giant global gathering on their doorstep!
To help ensure the Festival's continued success and for the purpose of everyone's enjoyment over the weekend, please support us by informing yourself of the following:
Alcohol Consumption
It is not permitted to drink alcohol on unlicensed premises and every effort will be made by the organisers and the Garda Síochána to enforce this bye-law. This includes the following venues: Newtownsmith Main Stage, People's Park, Harbour Plaza and the Pier. In addition it is illegal to drink alcohol on the streets by day or night.
'Anti Social' Behaviour
Please don't be loud and disorderly. When leaving licensed premises at night, do so in a responsible manner. Rowdy congregations (no matter how much fun you are having!) late at night do us no favours. Respect that the festival takes place in a residential town. Anti social behaviour will put the future of the festival in jeopardy.
Recycling and Litter
The Festival works hard to manage the litter issue over the weekend, however, we need your help to keep this under control. With 250,000 people disposing of waste it is a massive undertaking to keep Dún Laoghaire tidy. Support us in our effort to reduce waste. We ask you to please never leave rubbish behind you. If there is no bin near you, or if the nearest bin is full, please hold on to your rubbish until you see one - recyling bins are provided, be responsible and use them.
We are encouraging all traders who use disposable containers to purchase eco friendly products, this list is available as part of the Traders Application form
Illegal Trading (see http://www.festivalofworldcultures.c...
Please be aware that it is illegal to trade or busk throughout the festival site without a permit.0 commentaires 474 jours

FESTIVAL VOLUNTEERS - Be a part of something special!
Volunteers are certainly the life-blood of the Festival of World Cultures and their involvement has grown exponentially as this vibrant annual celebration has gained momentum.
In 2005 approximately 300 volunteers assisted in a wide variety of tasks over the Festival weekend including the welcoming of international artists at Dublin airport; stewarding and crowd control; working with children and families in The Peoples Park and making up lunch packs. The Festival organisers are seeking a similar number in 2006. All volunteers are given Health & Safety training, a pack of goodies from various sponsors and they enjoy the privilege of automatic membership to the Volunteers Club. Most of all, however, they are an integral part of something special.
Anyone who wishes to join the volunteers working on this exciting event should contact the Festival office by email: fwcvolunteers@dlrcoco.ie or by telephone on +353 (0) 1 271 95550 commentaires 1202 jours
