The Ultimate Price
He was no wimp. How cud any man take the physical torture He did, unless He was one of the toughest men whoever lived? He'd grown up in a rugged country and on that dark Friday morning, His lean, muscular body faced its hardest test - being nailed to the cross.
He'd a;ready absorbed more paine than most humans could endure. Falsely arrested by his own people, He was brave enough to bear incredible abuse without crying or saying a word. First, they tied and convicted Him illegally. Then they tied Him to a post and the whole gang of them beat His face with clubs and spit on Him.
After a night of unspeakable horror, they drag Him of to be whipped by professional executioners. They used whips of a board wielding nine strips of leather with a jagged piece of bone or metal attatched to each strip. They flogged Him until He no longer resembled a human being, but they stopped just short of His death. His murder was to be kept for the world's most wicked instrument of death: the cross.
After they beat Him senseless, He was forced to carry a heavey crossbeam on His back through city streets lined with curious onlookers, some bloodthirsty, some horror stricken. He staggered under His hundred-plus pound burden but finally made it to the place of His public execution, a hill called the Place of the Skull.
They slammed Him on His back and drove a nail through each wrist, visiciously securing Him to the crossbeam. Then placed His left foot over His right foot and with brute force pounded an eight inch spike through both feet at once and into the wood. His eyes rolled and His mind threatened to explode with the pain. But He remained silent.
It was only the strenght of His will that kept Him conscious. he still had some things left to do while He hung there between heaven and hell. He still had to take everything bad bout us, every crime we'd commited, every evil thought we've ever had, and pay the penalty for them - with His life.
