Sweeney Tod!!!
when i heard the legendary Tim Burton was teaming up yet again, with his soul mate in darkness, mister johny depp i knew it promised to be one hell of a blockbuster!!! Little did i know at that stage just how amazing the great duos work would turn out to be. When one thinks of a musical one has visions of julie andrews melodically singing " The hills are alive with the sound of music" and would find it quite difficult to associate the word "musical" with Tim Burton. However that has all changed thanks to the masterpiece that is Sweeney Tod. I was over the moon that finally one of the best musicals written was finally going to be put on the "big screen" and relieved to know it was in the safe hands of Burton. Unlike any other Burton film i was unable to know just what to expect.....Burton does musicals????? Depp singing????? but resided in the fact that a musical about a revenge driven throat slashing barber was just down Burtons lane!!!!
On the 25th of january I and my good friend brid plodded along to the 20 past 2 showing of "SWEENEY TOD" in cineworld on parnell street.To our suprise as we walked into the cinema we were approched by two hotties wondering if we would care to go see "walk hard" ..........the day Sweeney Tod was out......we declined realising straight away these boys had no taste in films although they had excellent taste in women!!! As we proceeded into the theater my heart began to beat faster as i watched the trailers with impaitence. A cold sweat came over me as the moment finally came......Sweeney Tod... From the blood dripping opening i knew that Burton had pulled off yet another masterpiece... From the moment Depp opened his mouth i realised theirs nothing this god cant do.... The creativity of each shot is spectacular with every last detail of the film polished with pure perfection!!! Helens curky talent radiates from the screen while our own irish rose "joanne" blossoms. Burton Depp and lots of Blood what more can a girl want....a few owl sing songs.....and thats exactly what i got!!!
and so i leave you for now with the words i sang with joy in my heart, that fine friday evening,as i left parnell street imaging... actually being served human pie.............................
