Greetings Traveler.
Who Am I?
Perhaps you have met me betwixt sleep and wake in the penumbra of uncertainty you call unconsciousness. Or perhaps you have met me in the pub.
My name is Robbie, my business is to drive, pure and simple.
"Mina's eyes popped out what was left of her back. Why oh why had she opened that tomb? The sand turned red. This was because she was bleeding on it. Blood, ruby red blood, her blood. Blood. And piss and shit. This was the worst day of her life."

- As day broke and the dawn stroked her golden fingers over the belly of the sky, a single lonely white cloud found herself marooned on the horizon. She watched as the man walked down the cold sand of the beach to the sea, and she watched as he waded into the calm waters, deeper and deeper until he was totally submerged. He stayed under the water whilst the sun rose up in anger and the cloud had to hide, and he stayed under the water as the sun grew fat and lazy and the cloud grew in confidence and crept cautiously across the sky. Eventually the sun slid down mortally wounded and bled onto the horizon, and the cloud rejoiced and danced for the timid stars before falling laughing into the sea, chopping the surface into pieces to join her lover in a confusion of bubbles. --http://tales-from-the-ridge.blogspot.com
- Poor Jaws
- Once, when I was younger, on a day when the sun was fat and clouds were piled up on the horizon like ice cream, I caught a shark. He was half as long as I was tall, with skin as harsh as sandpaper, and although his eyes were black and sad, he smiled at me as I scooped him into my boat. He told me, as he lay heaped in the belly of the boat, of strands of eel grass stroking his fins in the warm Sargasso, of endless twisting conversations with lonely remoras, of nights spent watching the ripples from a boat tear the moon into a thousand shimmering strips...and a tear painted a snail trail down my cheek as I realised my mistake. I apologised as I eased the hook out of his jagged mouth and helped him onto the lip of the boat, but he smiled again and assured me that he did not mind. His skin rasped against the wood as he slipped back into the diamond sea, and the water laughed as it embraced him. --http://tales-from-the-ridge.blogspot.com

- Everybody"s out of work or scared of losing their job. Banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there"s nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there"s no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV"s while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that"s the way it"s supposed to be.
We know things are bad -- worse than bad. They"re crazy. It"s like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don"t go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, "Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my radio and I won"t say anything. Just leave us alone."
Well, I"m not gonna leave you alone. I WANT YOU TO GET MAD!

He wasn't wearing any shoes when I last saw him
With pictures and video - www.robbiemilstead.co.uk
Again it’s been a while and I have done quite a lot since I last updated my blog. But I have had a few good days out I shall detail in time. When I last posted I was about to return to work for a period of time.
I worked through much of January, but did manage a hill with Pete and Calum one day. We went up to Loch Nagar and tried the mountain there. The snow was exceptionally deep and we didn’t make the summit. But it was great to get out none the less.
On my first day properly free we headed up skiing. I picked up Jenny early in the morning and we met up with Tom, Jamie and Peter in the Tesco at Westhill. The roof went down and we headed East. It wasn’t long before the snow set in, and we had to put the roof up at the car park at Balmorral castle, where this video was taken:
www.robbiemilstead.co.uk
Here’s some pictures of that day:
www.robbiemilstead.co.uk
We booked some lessons, Tom and I were to Ski whilst Jenny and Jamie were to board. Peter just headed up the piste and was quite happy. But it was only half an hour into getting there, whilst we were waiting for our lessons to start, that Jamie came in and told us Jenny had fallen and broken her wrist. She was thus raced back to Aberdeen; not much Skiing actually went on…
That weekend the rest of the family came to see my Aberdeen flat. Starlight Express was on at His Majesty’s Theatre, so that was the excuse to get them up. Auntie Gill, Uncle John, Granny and Marj also came along. We had dinner at a Turkish restaurant before hand, and afterwards Marj, Diain, Beth, Bev and I went to Pearl Lounge. It was a great evening. On the Sunday we returned to Carradale, and we took granny back with us.
Pictures from those few days:

I took granny back to Glasgow on the Wednesday; she took the train from there up to Aberdeen. I went and got an upgraded phone from Vodafone. During this I got a parking ticket which I promptly lost… Greig, Sylvia, Diain and I had dinner together that night and then Adam met up with us for drinks. The next day I did a bit of shopping in Glasgow before heading to Aberdeen only to retrieve my mountain climbing gear for a winter assault on The Ben. The drive over to Fort William on the Friday night was not very enjoyable but it was worth it. Pete, Greig and Adgdawa were waiting for me. Adgdawa is a Nepalese Sherpa who was visiting Scotland, and made contact with Pete who is a good friend of his brother. We took JC of Snowgoose Mountain Centre up Ben Nevis with us; he was to give us some winter skills training during the ascent.
We didn’t make the summit due to the adverse weather conditions and the risk of avalanches. Once at the base I quickly packed up and drove to Glasgow. It was another pretty dreadful journey in the snow, and only to catch the last couple of songs of the Colin Macintyre concert Diain and I went to. But we had an enjoyable night out in Buff Club and I slept at Greig’s place while he remained in Fort Bill. The next day I had lunch at Ichiban with Diain, Greig and Sylvia. Diain and I went to see Cloverfield and I then spent the evening hanging out at Lauren’s flat.
I returned to Aberdeen for a couple of days to catch up with myself. However, I went back via Edinburgh. I met Tom there who was meeting his brother Ben and Ben’s girlfriend. We did a bit of sightseeing, such as a tour of some of the vaults and a walk up to see the castle. A pint, some food, and Tom and I drove back up to Aberdeen. Once in town we went and met up with some of the guys who were enjoying a night out, we ended up in Liquid. That was pretty dire but a good laugh.
Tom and I both thought we were to return to work on the Thursday, so on Wednesday we took a drive to Skye for the day! We left Aberdeen at 0800 in the sunshine; roof down of course. Huntly – Dufftown – Aviemore – Spean Bridge – Kyle – Portree – Uig – then back to0 Kommentare 642 Tage

Yes it’s been a long time since I have posted on this, but not much has happened. I worked pretty much every day in December.
The last post was at the end of a trip home, just before my birthday. I drove up the road to Glasgow on the Thursday, having dinner at Greig’s. We went out for a couple of beers and met up with Diain, Sylvia and her brother. The next day was my birthday, and I treated myself to a trip to Richer Sounds, a look at a black MkII MX5 and a new pocket camera. I got a new CD player, amp and speakers at Richer Sounds; it’s amazing and puts a smile on my face every time I play a CD. The black MX5 was rough around the edges, a manky owner’s manual and rust around the bonnet. It was very cheap for a MkII, so I decided to give it a miss.
That night we went to The Garage for old time’s sake. We had a good time although the place did seem very quiet. But I think it was approaching exam time for a lot of the students so they were wimping out. Despite having a good evening I think I’ll be going elsewhere on future trips back to Glasgow.
The next morning Greig and I got up to go to the cinema with Diain. But on reaching the focus we found the offside rear door window smashed. I was sure I would find my new CD player gone, but all seven hundred pounds worth of audio equipment was left in there! It had been spread around the place but nothing appeared to have been taken. All the locks were still down but they had gone through the glove box. I had parked up with everything covered up so I have no idea how they knew to break into that particular car. A bag of syringes was lying on the ground at the back of the car, so Greig called the police. It seemed like they had been disturbed, but it being 1130 in the morning when we went down to the car, I was lucky no one had reached in and helped themselves to any of my stuff.
The police were as helpful as they could be, but were pretty bemused about the whole thing. The bag of syringes happened to contain named blood samples and medicine. A doctor’s car had been broken into the same night a couple of streets away so it was thought the bag maybe came from there. I later discovered a couple of my cameras had been taken from the car, my old Cannon Powershot A80 and my new Powershot S3. An S5 is now on my shopping list…
Once the police were finished at the scene, I took the car out to Autoglass. I left the car with them while Greig and I went to look at a red MkI MX5 out in Paisley. The car appeared to be quite a minter, the owner’s manual being perfectly kept and there being little or no rust at all. We took it for a drive, I liked it a lot, so I bought it, I would pick it up in a week.
That night I was going to see the Stereophonics. I raced up the road, picked up Marj, dumped the contents of the car at my flat, and we went to the AECC. We missed the support act but the gig was very good, they rocked.
I just chilled at my flat on the Sunday, and went into the office on the Monday. I was recruited to cover for a guy for three days doing Nexen monitoring at the office, so was stuck in there from Tuesday to Thursday. While I was on that I was recruited to be testing the new Remote Operations which was starting that Saturday.
I had the Friday off, and as I knew I was going to working solidly for an unknown length of time, I made the most of the day. I got up in good time, had a strong coffee, and ripped out the cabinet in my kitchen. I drove down to B&Q for some shelves to put up in its place. I tidied my flat from top to bottom, and felt ready to put op with a long time at the office.
I had arranged to pick up my new car that weekend, but as I had to work I added Greig to the insurance and he would drive it up to me on the Sunday. He pi0 Kommentare 700 Tage

As usual, don't read it here, clicky:

Jim: "for once I actually clicked on your link, and the pictures do add an extra dimension"
Anyway, the blog as it reads:
OK it’s been so so long since I have written this I’m not sure when to start. I just need to get on with it and bring this thing up to date.
I have been offshore a few times now, First to Ninian South to backload one of our Logging Units. I only had a few days after that overnight trip before I was sent on my first proper job. I spent two weeks aboard Sedco 712 which floats over 100 miles off Aberdeen. It’s a small drilling rig, only about 22 years old, but we had a brand new logging unit out there. I learned a lot on that trip, saw lots of drilling.
I came back on a Friday night, quite early in the day so I popped into the office for a de-brief and lunch with the guys. I went home for a small sleep, from about 3 till 6 (What follows over the next few days is not the way to get over 2 weeks of nightshift!). I then got ready to head into town to meet up with Giorgio and Jamie. We had a few drinks in Soul and met a few more of the guys in Paramount. We all ended up going down to Tiger Tiger, but this place is no way as good as it used to be so Giorgio, Jamie and I went down to Espionage for the banter. Jagerbombs and Vodka Red bulls and I lost all memory. I think I got to bed at like four and got up when Diain called me at one o’clock in the afternoon. I jumped up and got in the car to drive through to Inverness, stopping by in Nairn on my way through. We got to Jim’s place in time to go for an Indian, which Diain, Greig, Lynda, Jim and I ate at his place in Tore. Greig drove us into down, he wasn’t drinking, but he joined us for a beer in The Foundry. It was here we met Euan MacCormick with his friend Louise. We all stood back and admired the lengths the girls had gone to dress as skimpily as possible. It was great.
We had a few drinks in the Foundry before heading to Inverness’ new club. G’s has now become ‘Love 2 Love.’ We had an ace time in there that night, we got there so early, and even then it was packed. Diain and I spent much of the night on the dance floor upstairs. It has a downstairs section which has one of those dancefloors with the flashing lights. It’s ace. We spend a lot of the time with Euan. I met a nice policewoman.
We got back to Tore pretty late. Diain and I ended up getting a taxi back ourselves and Jim had gone back with Lynda shortly before. When we got back to the hose we had a couple of beers with Jim, but I was worried about having another late night so said we must head to bed, despite it being like half four. But of course I had a couple of vodka red bulls that evening and therefore did not get a wink of sleep the entire night.
I was driving to Glasgow the next day which wasn’t pleasant. But after a good breakfast I felt ok. We were meeting the parents in Glasgow and going with them to see Meat Loaf. After dinner in Mao, we went to the SECC. The gig was brilliant, we were in seating directly opposite the stage. His voice was still very powerful, and he did the concert Just as he always has, the duets with hot girls and motorbike sounds by the guitars. We were lucky as he lost his voice in the next gig he did in Newcastle, but he is like 60!!
I spent the next few days in Glasgow with mum and dad, They stayed in a nice flat in Merchant City whilst I stayed over at Greig’s. I was called on Tuesday night that I had a check in on the Friday morning. On the Wednesday night, however, we had a gig. That gig was Radio Soulwax’s fancy dress Hallowe’en Party. It was awesome, simply incredible. Fantastic.
The next day I had lunch with Greig before getting back in time for a briefing for the trip offshore the next day, and dinner with Kelly.
This trip was back to the same rig but only lasted a week. Again I returned on the Friday and went out for a couple of beers0 Kommentare 737 Tage

Jim Main55 Wochen herGood day,
I am still in Qatar. I am however flying home tonight. Plane takes off at 2 in the morning! Will be sleeping ALL the way back! Going to go and get full cooked breakfast and a pint! Its the simple things in life you miss out here! 4 weeks seemed like an eternity! I wonder what the availability is like for Knockhill in december. I have now been told i ain't back here til January. However, i think i will be going offshore about the 1st of december for a 2 week scanning job. Could do with the readies for christmas! We were screwed out of 12 hrs wages from the first week we were here! Never mind, home soon. We fly to Gambia early doors on tuesday. Driving down to the weeg on monday and staying in hotel next to airport over night. Hotel looks well plush: Corinthia Atlantic - Gambia. Check it out on web! There is a bar restaurant that serves you when you are on the beach! AMAZING!!! Working for caintech when i get back for 2 days before going back to hi-cad. Give us a phone monday! -
Jim Main56 Wochen herDude,
This place is SHIT! Looking forward to getting home! Now i am not coming back for next trip, coming back here in January. Taking a tan really well at moment. Will be replying to the name of winston when i get home! Looks like off shore for a two week scanning job though before christmas. Should be good. two weeks of 3 meals a day! Can't be bad. Also, it isn't 36C in the north sea. Always a plus point!
Anymore good scoffs out there? You should go to Los Cucos again! Mind where i burnt my mouth! That place is awesome! My old man is hating Houston after living in Aransas. He is hating the traffic most! He just bought a new Chevvi 2500HD truck. Like his old one, but a bit bigger. With more HP. 13mpg at best though! It looks like i will be driving in style when i go out next. It is 4 x 4 this time, only when you want it to be though. So i will still be drifting it through traffic! Anyway, i'm off to sleep! -
Jim Main57 Wochen herGo for January at the moment, i won't know what is happening until closer to then as far as which country i'm in. Is the F150 as bad as Clarkson says it is? If you have a day to kill. Take everyone to the pyramid centre in Galveston, i would check that the centre hasn't been relocated by the stiff breeze called Ike..
I booked our holiday last night, leave on morning of 11th. Back on morning of 19th. The whole Gambia thing will be a very much needed rest! Qatar is VERY VERY hot. It makes doing anything a big task. I thought the locals would be used to it, but they seem to be struggling with the heat as much as we are! We are going quad biking this saturday in the sand dunes, our first day off! Cant work on a tan here, totally covered by the overalls and hat and stuff. That is what i intend to do in Gambia! I am leaving uk to come back here on the 22nd of November for another four weeks. Do you have any time off week of 18th november? Could catch up.
Anyway, i'm off to work... -

I have grown sick of curries! I told Lynda, i wont be eating any curry for 6 months! Barry, the guy im working with loves papas seafood! Hope you arent eating in the hotel like i found u when i first met up with u guys! Ah well, u didnt know any better!
Dad is now working in Houston, the contract in Corpus went sour, he told them to piss off and moved office to Houston. "bunch of pricks!" as my dad so well put it!
Are you back for more training? Have you been to:
a - IHOP and b - Hooters yet? If not, i would tend to say, stop being a loser and get your perverted corpse along there now!!!
Anyway, speak to you later!

Jim Main58 Wochen herHows it going mannie?? Just been looking through the nurbergring / Le mans photos again, i am split in what i am saving up for now... Another elise (S2 this time) or deposit for a house!!! Better remain sensible for time being! But maybe for next summer, what you up to at the mo? Still working night shifts? We have been stopped by the whole PTW crap and other paperwork. So so far, since getting here on Saturday, we havent managed to do anything practical at all. It is really dragging! Its 39C here today. (quite warm for being outside all the time!) Food really good out here, on the whole much better than you get in uk.
