A Poem by Aidan Sharkey
OH, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MORNING!
There was a touch of frost that night
And the new day's sun on each gorse bush
Showed dewy webs of gossamer,
My, what a wonderous sight!
For stretched across each bush
And the path that ran between
A hundred thousand silver strands
Were reflected in the sheen.
The gorse gave way and broke,
A clearing lay beyond
And there a rabbit sat
At the edge of a glass-still pond.
He dined upon an emerald mat
Littered with jewels of dew;
How many people were content as he?
Very few, I knew.
Now and then he would pause
And twitching nose would scent the air
And one hind foot would scratch an ear,
He didn't have a care.
I pursed my lips and made a sound
Which caused him up to sit,
Then raised the gun, took careful aim
And blew his head to shit
