So we left NZ on Monday morning sometime around 7ish and headed for Fiji. I managed to become sick (on the plane before we even taxi-ed) because of some sick soup I had the night before at the motel.

Arrived in Fiji about 10 and it was stinking hot (and wearing jeans doesn't help any). The minute we were out of the Airport, we were nearly convinced to take a taxi to Suva from Nadi at $60 p/person and we decided to take the bus at $13.75 p/person. Met a local on the bus whom we sat with which luckily he was able to trnaslate the news to inform us that there was a Cylcone coming our way (Cyclone Gene) in which Neil had called our resort to be told we should stay in Suva as the weather is not right to be travelling to Naigani Island.

We ended up staying in Suva until the Wednesday (2 nights) with no power, phone or water as the cyclone had caused a fair bit of havoc. Neil got asked to buy dope and a laptop from one man and Neil oh-so politely declined. lol.

When we headed to Naigani, the weather was nice and the roads were damaged from Cyclone Gene. When we arrived at the Natovi Landing, we had to wait for another passenger to come before waiting another half an hour for the boat (this is where we learned Fiji Time). Our boat was a bit rougher than what we expected but it was sea worthy and we were just too keen to be getting a shower after 3 days!

When we arrived at Naigani Island, Sammy was there singing to welcome us to the Island and it was our first experience of departing and launching our boat without an actual "wharf". On the Wednesday night, we had our first bout of Kava (and never again for me!) Sammy and Toka laughed as I dry reached. The boys sung until late and joked and laughed with us and the three other guests for hours.

On Thursday, the other guests left and from then on, we were the only ones on the Island other than the locals. We relaxed and enjoyed the island sitting on the beach and taking a tonne of photos.

Friday, we went to the Village (I was seriously expecting at least a shop....unfortunately for me, there was none) this is when I realised that this is where our friends were living. It was upsetting until we spoke with Toka on our last day to realise, they choose to live like this and you can tell there isn't a lot of money in Fiji, not like home. We asked if we could take a photo of the free roaming pigs. I think it may have been this night when I had my most delicious meal on the Island consisting of a casserole which was cooked in a banana leaf (I would love another one of those and definately compliments to the Chef every night!)

Saturday morning was an early one.....like 5am due to the heat and not managing a shower for a few days, I got an infection. I woke Neil at 6 am and we got ready for breakfast to see if we could get to Ovalau to the Drs. That was an experience in itself! No doctors work on a Saturday, so we dealt with a nurse who didn't know what I meant when I said I had a urine infection....She said "is this the ones you had" when I said I had had antibiotics before to treat it and opens up two containers for me to check. WT.....? So we called our doctor back home and it turns out that ones we were given were ok to take. We asked how much to pay and the nurse informs us "no charge, Fiji Free!" Our boat trip back to Naigani was one major mission! The sea was rough with swells up to at least 2 metres and none of us had life jackets on. We stayed near our Bure (room) for the rest of the day seeing as I needed to be near a toilet as much as possible.

Sunday, I was starting to feel better and Neil went for a swim in the pool. We went to the beach and read our books and relaxed for the day. Didn't do too much this day.

Monday, we relaxed and enjoyed our breakfast (every day we had fruit consisting of Watermelon, Pineapple, Orange, Banana and Papaia) with like a second course of either banana or chocolate muffins or pancakes followed by toast
