  • Dance - no routines - just dance

    So...........

    Kushion last night........

I was enjoying James.D's set last night so much that I took it upon myself just to rock out on the dancefloor.

    Jesus, dancing is amazin.

Sometimes when you play music you forget how much fun it is just to throw some shapes on the floor.

Now, I've seen the plebs like JT, Usher and all the other over rehearsed guys who pop like they've just eaten a lemon before they took to the floor, no sir, no routines for me - just rocking out.

The comment of "ooft, ur movments are so fluent, ur body is just like a wave" put a large smile on my face as I continued to bust a move.

    Moral of this story.....

    No routines / Just dance.

  • Back to the lightbulbs.......

Don't get me wrong DJing is brilliant and when I eventually stop playing out I will still DJ at home as it is something I enjoy and am passionate about.
But - and yes, there's always a but - One thing I'm not so keen on is the bitching within the DJ community. * Shout outs and big hands at the end

Example 1. A DJ is playing out in a club, he mixes a tune, fu*ks it up due to whatever........while this happens, another DJ was listening - the general reaction is "that DJ's sh*t", not taking into account many factors as to what might of caused the mistake. Get a grip - everyone fucks up sometimes.

Example 2. Again funnily enough, a DJ is playing out in a club. Another DJ is in and the consensus is " I wouldn't of played that with that, thats rubbish, should of played the ORIGINAL - I'm much better". This is bullshit, total bullshit.

Example 3. A DJ getting slagged off other DJs because his style maybe a lil bit more modern and challenging than convention/old fashioned styles of DJing.

Example 4.DJs thinking that being a DJ is "cool". DJing is a job - rock the party. Doing it so you can say "I DJ in such and such - I can get any girl I want" is pathetic.Trully pathetic.

Example 5.Just plain old "that dj's sh*t" - why? well the reason falls in with this. ....... A wise man told me this.
    Q. How many DJ's does it take to change a lightbulb?
A.1 to change the bulb and the rest of the room to say they could of done it better.

I'm not saying I have no gripes about DJs but they do not come under any of the above.

For me I believe a DJ should of spent much of his/her time in actual record shops, have a vast knowledge of music, looked through stacks of vinyl, sifting out the crap, sifting out what you would buy the next week (records wern't cheap), spending money on music instead of other things, being prepared to spend £10+ on a tune/break that you'd maybe have on for 1 minute in your set, being prepared to spend hours upon hours finding the good tunes instead of just buying what the guys in the record shops advised you(the descriptions the guys write on the 12" are generally there just to boost sales!) so if a DJs missed that part out I feel sorry for them cos it was brilliant!!!

But yes it's gone pretty much digital - this doesn't mean asking other djs for their whole collection - thats taken hour after hour to compile - no, do it yourself and you learn along the way. Don't take on a gig if you aint got the records to be able to do the gig well.

Unless you turn up and the promoter asks " have you got enough tunes" - this generally means your working for a dick who is just looking to pay you fuc*k all - they won't care what you play cos they probably don't have a clue anyway.

I have more but I aint going down that road - this post is just to answer the haters of the glasgow scene anyway.

Basically I'm down with any DJs who have a GENUINE addiction to music, if you hear a tune and it excites you, you want to know who it's by, and you want it - thats pretty much how a DJ reacts - and thats what makes us love DJing so much.
Yeah mixing, scratching, juggling and technical ability is great, but a total love for good music and wanting to rock the dancefloor will go much further.

As I said, this post is just answering some critics of late, noones above criticism, nor should they be but there are times too when keeping your mouth shut might just be the best option.

By the way here's a mix Ive done - download it and hopefully enjoy it.

    http://www.box.net/shared/lxbtz1h75f

It has remixes AND originals - an interesting concept I know.

    Rosco

*Shout outs(alphabetical order) - Al, Billy Jones, Chris M, Dom Martin, Gav, Geoff M, Harri, James D, Mash , Miguel, McCallum , Paul Rea, PT, Richie, Stevie Sole, Thommo, Vance, , , , , , , , ,I'm sure there's more - all of the above DJs have given me advice and I've learned from all of them - Rock out boys.
