But oh well, some half brazillian/ half croatian nobody will do instead (yeh right.) Love wenger and all he has done for the club but if he walks out next summer and we have a bunch of mediocre players, with cesc etc hightailing it out the door we could be screwed. Think of the players we have sold recently - would this team beat our current first eleven?

Think it would be pretty close. In that time we have bought only Fabianski, Denilson, Gallas and this new unknown - am I missing something - did we have way too many players before (there are plenty of others that have left like Muamba and Larsson.) Why are we not being talked about for Torres etc - I am startin to get pretty impatatient with all this "building for the future" nonsense - if wenger and fabregas leave our future will be uefa cup if we are lucky and a shot at the carling.

As my last blog/ footie prediction was such a resounding failure I thought I should update you all with a new one (thanks for pointing this out to me Monsieur Jones.) The new premier league season is soon to start and much has changed during the summer. Not quite so many new signings in the Arsenal changing room as I would have liked. Would have been good to see old Arsene go all out for Torres but then again thats not really what we need. Van Piersie is going to be great this season and Lupoli, Brentner, Adebayor etc should supply ample support for Thierry. Its really at the back we need a bit more class.

My first step would be to demand Wayne Bridge as a make weight in the Cole deal. Between Bridge and Clichy, left back would be sorted. In centre half we need at least one more quality performer. Like the idea of getting a classy young player like Curtis Davies and from what I read about him, he has the personality to go all the way. That said we cant be held to ransom for funny money just cos the guy is young and English. But then who do you go for - theres not that many great young centre halfs out there and even less that are remotely available. Suppose its all relative though - do I believe there are better centre halfs in the Championship than Pascal Cygan - personally I believe there are beer bellied steamers in the Glasgow Pubs Old Boys League that are better than Pierre Luigi Collinas French Cousin. Perhaps we should test Spurs resolve over Ledley King or stick to our guns and demand William Gallas as well from Chelsea. Or if Milan dont make Champions League perhaps we should dangle that carrot in front of Allesandro Nesta. They would be my preferred choices if we cant get davies for a reasonable amount.

Any thoughts - who are the decent centre halfs out there?

With the World Cup really hotting up I thought it was about time I had a bit of a rant about it all. Spain versus France tonight and Brazil play Ghana. At the moment my money would be on Spain and actually I would suggest that they will give the Brazilians in the semi a good run for their money. I think England will also grind out a victory at Portugal, mainly cos they will be missing some folk. That said England will get found out in the Semis by either Spain or Brazil. Will continue later but keen to get others thoughts but I am going for a Argentina Vrs Spain final with the argies to win!! By the time you read this I might have been proved wrong (stranger things have happened.)
