Great day at the Fringe today
Started off at the pleasance courtyard waiting for potted potter and making fun people knocking over the towers of empty glasses (I was not one of those people, honest). We got in and unfortunately didn’t get seats near the quidditch hoops. I will point out we saw this show last year, but it was surprising how much of it I had forgotten until about 1sec before a funny line was said. Potted Potter is two guys (Dan and Jeff) parodying all seven Harry Potter books in seventy minutes. It was still really funny, and if you’re in Edinburgh before the 25th I really recommend it , if nothing else I want someone else to laugh if I quote lines . Gryffindor won the quidditch match *boo *hiss, Dad switched one seat over just to be in Gryffindor and Mum and I poked him.
After that show, I sat outside waiting for Mum to bring me some very suspect potato skins and I saw Dan!!! (from Potted Potter, he’s the taller one) I was going to say hi, possible ask for an autograph but he was rushing over to the other side of the courtyard for his next show (I presume), Potted Pirates, which Dad was buying tickets for at that very moment. While having lunch I was offered quite a few flyers for shows and a free ticket (at the very last moment) to a show called Nude, described as the show with the most embarrassed nudity and the hairiest backs, I was nearly tempted.
The second show was called Potted Pirates, by Dan and Jeff. It was basically the same formulae as Potted Potter, just with pirates. This is no bad thing (don’t listen to my mum, she’s just picky), it still had me crying with laughter. My personal favourite bit (I don’t want to spoil all the funnies if you do decide to see them) was the battle between Sir Francis Drake and the Spanish Armada. The audience being Sir Francis Drake and armed with cannon balls (blue ballpit balls, Dad nicked one as a souvenir), we pelted Jeff (aka the Spanish armada) so hard he fell over After the battle, we were chucked treasure (chocolate coins!) which I’ve kept as my souvenir, and to summarise, Dad and I loved it, Mum is being picky, and the final song was kinda shit.
After reading all the posters for shows around the walls, we walked to the Royal mile and then around several blocks, several times so Dad could find a cash vpoint and then through the meadows to find dinner before the Ladyboys. Had a lovely dinner and several extra plates of cheese at a deli while we waited for Kirsten and then headed to the big tent thing.
We were seated at table 40, only about two sets of tables away from the stage, however I made sure Kirsten was sitting nearer the aisle, therefor they couldn’t pull me up to the stage. I loved it!!! Ok, most of the music was shit, they had a mix of three spice girl hits and another of Robbie hits, that annoying umbarella song, a beyonce song (I’m told) and songs from Grease and Moulin Rouge. To make up for that, the costumes were amazing, ‘specially the ones for Devils and angels, all corsets and feathers and fire! Oh and ‘Bat out of Hell’ as the music There was a really scary number with a song about kisses and Grandad’s and a scary yellow dress, pigtails and audience walking. I swear I got so scared anytime that they came anywhere near our side of the tent. I have three favourites, the first was a duet I didn’t recognise, with both parts played by the same lass (yes I know they’re all guys, some with tits but it’s easier to call the ones dressed as girls, lassies and the ones dressed as guys, guys). It’s really strange to see a person with two hairstyles perfectly split and she acted both parts (left:male, right:female) brilliantly. My second favourite, was to the song ‘My Way’ and had a gorgeous blue ballgown, and the set was the whole mirror dressing room thing. During the song the lass slowly switched into guys clothes, and took off jewelry and make-up and just as he took off his wig it changed
