Tutto su di me
the amount of experience,of effort of pain and suffering that results in perhaps a work of art that lives. or a book that becomes a work of art is stupendous. so it is with bodybuilding the weak fall by the way sid and the strong train on. the thing that marks the super athlete is the capacity to suffer and stand up to continued suffering. a champion thrives on suffering.. b.n.b.f light weight british no2 2006 plus best abs . b.n.b.f. light weight british champ 2005 . i.n.b.f world no2 2005 . bnbf light weight qual winner 05 . b.n.b.f light weight scottish no3 2004 s.f.b.b wast coast scottish novice champ 1991 . s.f.b.b scottish under21 no3 1988

  • Interview by tony just after the british

Profile questions asked by Tony Montalbano!

    Name: Ian Smith
    Age - 37
    Height - 5' 9'
    Bodyweight - 10st 12lb
    Off season - 11th 12lb
Vital statistics - Don't really measure my self very often and don't have a tape measure.

Why did I start to train? A friend of mine was in the Scottish arm wrestling competition and he took me along to the local gym and that is when I first started to train, just before my 20th birthday.

Where do I currently train? In the Tingwall gym in Shetland (Power Gym)
Who do you train with? For the past 2 years I have been training with the chief inspector of police in Shetland. We get on really well together and it gives him a break from his high-pressure job.

Contest history - 1988 SFBB Scottish under 21's 3rd place, 1991 SFBB Scottish Novice under 75kg 1st place
2004 BNBF Scottish Mr lightweights 3rd place, 2005 BNBF Southern Mr lightweights 1st Place.2005 bnbf british 1st place . 2005 inbf worlds 2cd
place . 2006 bnbf british second place plus best abs at show

Other achievements - I won 1st place in bodybuilding competition in a magazine (Bodybuilding monthly) I won 2 tickets to watch the British 1988 bodybuilding competition final London at an all expenses paid trip, and £200 worth of supplements. I tried out for the UK Gladiators in 1993, 1994 and 1996 nearly qualified in 1996. I became Shetlands gladiator in 1998.

Training Split - I train 4 days per week at the power gym (Monday legs Tuesday back Thursday chest and shoulders Friday arms)

Training Style - It just depends on how I feel, some nights it heavier than others and we are just human and we have to realises our maximum ability.

Favourite body part to train - Legs with squats and my stomach.

Best body part - its hard to comment on yourself but in a given situation like this I would say my peaky biceps and my tight mid section.
Describe you typical diet off season and pre contest - Working as a joiner in the building trade we are always on the move so a peace bag is my heart and soul for food intake through the day. I believe in trying to eat healthily all year round and not to go too much over contest weight. Last year being my first year back at competing for over 10 years I have learned allot for this years competition dieting and it has paid off already for my first success in the BNBF.

Favourite food? My favourite food is off season is as I mentioned before I still try to eat healthily but the calorie intake is allot more, like my tuna mayonnaise with salad cream and crushed pineapple, I don't know if that really counts as a cheap meal or not????

My favourite cheat food? This would have to be mums cooking with all the trimmings beat a Chinese anyway.

What lessons have you learned in bodybuilding? I have learned that if you have a strong mind your body will follow you to your goals you are aiming for. It has also taught me to appreciate other people aims in life to climbing Mount Everest to swim in the channel and for taking their first steps after a terrible accident. The mind has allot to say in our daily lives.

Favourite movie? Clint Eastwood Unforgiven, Documentary with Mohamed Ali when we were kings.

Favourite book? Ancient Viking life and culture.

Hobbies? Fishing and gardening I find it passes the time and keeps your mind off of competition dieting.

Favourite singer? 50 Cent, Madonna, Clearwater Revival, inexcess.

    Favourite colour? Sky blue
The wisest decision that you ever made? Went on camp America in 1998 this was a great experience and allot of work but great rewards for working with children and other councillors from all around the world.
Biggest regret? The one that springs to mind most recently was not entering the British competition last year, because I had just split up with my girlfriend after the Scottish show but looking back I should of stayed focused and stayed for my shot, so that has really made me focus strongly for the show in Dorset this year.

Hi Pundie, hope everythings going good in Sweden. Game up in Unst wasn't great. Got beat 5-0, we played better in the second half but they were a piece better. I think they'll have a good chance against Delting in the next round.
Hows the job going? U gonna be out there for long?
