      DUNDEE LIVE - BANDS TO WATCH!!

      SARAH COLOSO - Ashes On The Wind CD-EP

      New name on the folk-rock circuit, this is her debut EP. It opens with the title track and you hear strummed acoustic guitar, deep bass and neatly solid lurching drums. Above this Ms Coloso sings the song, revealing this full-sounding, low-mid range vocal that sounds like a happier June Tabor mixed with a stronger Natalie Merchant and is just perfect for the song, and actually showing she's got a good range and provides the song with intensity and emotion that simply wreaks atmosphere at the same time of being strong and flowing. “Rockstar” has more of a lurch to it, with stumbling strong drums, almost jazzy upfront bass and the depth of acoustic guitar providing the sweetness. Over this, another yearning, imploring, emotive vocal provides a sea of imagery and observation on a song that tumbles forward and keeps you mesmerised with a chorus-as-hook that really sticks in the head. “You Know” is slower, slightly, more intense, with more of that magical resonant bass guitar over the solid lurching drums and the deep strummed acoustic guitar, over which Sarah's soaring mid-range vocal gives the song something special that puts her ahead of so many vocalists in her field with such a strong performance that would get her noticed by many a well known folk-rock label in a fairer musical world. The song has you spellbound as its density unfolds with a lightness of touch and easy arrangement that is positively inspiring. Finally, “Frustration” is a driving slice of observational imagery and personal angst that really hits home as Sarah sings things about rock bands that I can so relate to and it's a song, delivered by just acoustic guitar vocals and bass guitar, that should be heard by every band the length and breadth of the land – this is lyric writing “par excellence” and just a fantastic song – her vocal really biting and emotive, delivering every line with passion and feeling. Overall, this is one stunning EP, the majority of the tracks the better for having a drummer and bassist, the last track simply amazing, and all of it showing that, in Ms Coloso, we have a new singer and songwriter on the block who seriously deserves to get noticed.

    • Law Ball 2008

      Right, so the memories are still a little hazy so i thought i'd start a wee bloggy of what ppl remember they/others did while drunk/paraletic at the Law Ball. I'll get things kicked off n ppl follow suit - if anyone can remind me of anything else i did i would appreciate the memories :P

      1) Sat down at the dinner table plastered

      2)Once the white wine was poured i grabbed a bottle of red wine and claimed it as my own

      3) Arranged my triangle of drinks - a pink playboy bunny hip flask, a can of becks and the bottle

      4) Realised this wasn't very sophisticated and poured the hip flask into the coffee cup and the can into a wine glass

      5)Threw the can under the table

      6) Undid this by beginning to drink the wine from the bottle with a straw

      7)Had a race with sharon to finish the soup

      8) Started referring to the indian waiter as "Oi, Big Tits!!"

      9)Slapped the waiter's arse

      10)Waved baby corn menacingly at Sharon

      11)Ate desert without hands

      12)Fell over a fair bit on the dancefloor

      13)While walking to the room with a full glass of red wine decided it would be fun to periodically spill it along the carpet while saying "Ooops!! it wasnae me!!!"

      14)Not letting security into the room declaring that it was a "Private Function"

      15)Robbie trying to fire in with Lauren's sis

      I dont remember much else....please fill in the blanks for me and add any additional funnies

      Who brought the fire exit sign into the room?????

      And what the fuck was i drinking from the jug????

      And by the way, WHAT A FUCKING AWESOME WEEKEND!!!!!!
