A STAR of the BBC's controversial series The Scheme has been convicted of attempting to smuggle drugs into a prison.

Dayna McLaughlin, 19, admitted trying to smuggle heroin into Kilmarnock prison in July last year.

She admitted possessing the class A drug with intent to supply and failing to appear at court on a previous occasion.

Dayna, her boyfriend Marvin and their dog Bullet have become the unlikely stars of the gritty show following the lives of six families on the Onthank estate in Kilmarnock.

Marvin, 30, is also facing a court appearance on charges of stealing toiletries from a Co-op shop in the town later this year.

Dayna admitted the drug charges at the town's sheriff court earlier this month. She was placed on a drug testing order for two years.

She also admitted stealing toiletries from Kilmarnock's Asda store in January and clothes from a Marks and Spencer store last month.

Last night, a legal source revealed Dayna is due back in court on June 16 to co-operate on a drug testing order and added: "A drug-testing order is seen as a stiffer sentence than probation. If she steps out of line, she'll be straight back up before a sheriff."

The Scheme has been a surprise ratings hit for the BBC, with 341,000 viewers for the first episode on May 18 - 28 per cent of the audience share.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the BBC had been forced to pull the fly-on-the-wall documentary because one of its subjects had been arrested.

The two remaining episodes have been postponed "indefinitely".

Scheme Transmission Postponed by Legal Action
A documentary series about families living in a large housing estate in Kilmarnock has had its screening halted because of legal action.

Although the proposed screening of BBC Scotland's The Scheme this evening is still going ahead, the next two - and final - episodes have been postponed to a later date pending legal action following the arrest of a person not yet seen on screen in the series.

The BBC has therefore taken the view that the final two episodes should be shown after the legal issues relating to the person who has been arrested are resolved.

Tonight's episode takes place on BBC One Scotland, at 10.35pm, with a statement at the end of the transmission explaining the delay.

The Scheme is described as "an observed documentary series following the dramatic and often emotional highs and lows of daily life for six different families all living in one large housing scheme in Kilmarnock".

The description continues: "From parents battling to keep their kids on the straight and narrow to people fighting for community projects, the series offers a snapshot of life in modern day Scotland."
