9 days, 550miles of glorious cycling agony.
Hooray! I actually completed that cycling trip that I'd been going on about. Owen, Pete and myself cycled round Scotland on borrowed, botched and improvised gear. Knobbly tyres, panniers held on with last minute clamps and duct tape, singlespeed, flat pedals and equipment bought from Aldi isn't your standard cycle-touring fare but it got us there!
Day 1 was Glasgow to Edinburgh anlong the cycle path, 3 punctures showed how hard it was to leave the broken glass behind us. 62 miles.
Day 2 took us to the famous fish&chip shop at Anstruther through Queensferry, Inverkeithing, Burntisland, Kircaldy, and Buckfasthaven (where I picked up the final puncture of the trip). We camped by the shore with a roaring fire. 57 miles.
Day 3. Via Crail, a detour after the police suggested we didn't cycle up their temporary one way street, St Andrews, Dundee and on to Alyth. 55 miles.
Day 4 started well with 30 miles in the first 2 hours through Forfar to Lunan Bay but the North wind slowed progress up the coast to Stonehaven. We camped in a wooded break between feilds and ate two dinners. 70 miles.
Day 5 was a bastard, it rained all day and we were constantly fighting into the wind. Stonehaven north through Aberdeen and Dyce to Udny Green and pete's folks house. We took a rest day to aviod some more crappy weather. 45 miles.
Day 7. From Pete's through Oldmeldrum, Huntly, Dufftown and Glenlivet to Aviemore. A change in the weather brought our first odd tan lines and the cairngorms gave us some mean climbs and 40+mph downhills. 87 miles
Day 8. Aviemore-Kingussie-Laggan-Spean Bridge-Fort William-Onich. Well deserved sunny weather. 72 miles.
Day 9 was a hard slog and our longest day with 7 3/4 hours in the saddle following the A82 from Onich to Balloch (glencoe-tyndrum-crainlarich-tarbet) then small roads, canal and cycle path through dumbarton to glasgow and the end of the trip. 96 miles.

Ticino
My blogs are never any good so i'll leave it to christian to tell you what we did last weekend:
"The weekend was by the way quite amazing. We went down to Ticino on Friday night after a short farewell-party for Genna and Erika near the train station in Brugg. The trip down was quite entertaining (read as: high consumption of beer) and we were probably quite a nuisance to the other passengers. :-) After arrival at 11pm we spend about an hour trying to find the hostel, before heading down into town. There we discovered the awful truth about Lugano: everybody goes to bed at 11pm! So after some random wandering that for Dougie and Sam involved bathing in the lake, we finally headed back to the hostel at about 2am.
The next morning we carried out our customary hour long search for breakfast before taking a dip in the pool at the hostel. The pool area was a wonderful spot remnicent of a great holiday resort, inside a small wineyard with palms, sun chairs/beds, a small bar, a view to the alps and the occational hot girl lounging by the poolside.
This idleness was followed by a flurry of activities aimed at finding: 1. a place that rented out mountainbikes, 2. a place to use said bikes and 3. arranging transportation to the area. This was all finally accomplished when we finally went by a furnicular up to Mt Generosa (appox. 1800m above sea level) After enjoying the wonderful views from this mountain (which was made about 5meters taller by the heaps of goat shit on the top) we took the furnicular back down to a cafe at 1200-1300m, where we finally got our hands on the long awaited bikes. Dougie seemed very happy about being back on two weels, but he still wouldn't shut up about his darling mountain bike back in Scottland......
The trip down covered slightly less than 1000 height meters, and (mostly because we got lost) took 2-2.5hours. The trip involved some (in my opinon) quite challenging and dangerous riding down a path through the forest down the side of the mountain. This took a while to get used too, and I occationally acted like a small swedish girl, which off course forced the other guys to wait up quite a lot. The whole experience was however throughoutly awesome, and a trip worth remembering. The last leg of the trip (because we had taken a quite long detour after choosing the wrong path) was on small alpine roads going through traditional Italian style villages perched high up in the hillsides, small cobbled streets, etc (and this was a decidedly touristfree area, and thus it was all 100% genuine, unlike a lot of the areas one can see in more frequently visited areas).
Well back in Lugano we took another dip in the pool before hitting town with Matteo, his girlfriend and a friend of theirs. We had dinner in a restaurant on a small piazza (square) in the old town, and not even the thunderstorm that passed during the meal managed to put a damper on the evening ,even though it involved some huddling under the tables as a passing waiter was struck by lightning. Or something like that...
Anyway, on sunday we did some quick sightseeing in Lugano while spending hours looking for breakfast. (big surprise). After finally compromising our integrity by having said breakfast at a Burger King (the only open not-insanely-expensive-restaurant and thus the only source of only moderately expensive food), we headed off towards Bellinzona and bouldering place. After travelling long and far on trains and buses (at least one of each), we reached the small town from which we started our 30 minute hike to the objective.
The area was quite large and we saw quite a few other climbers, even though we only had a look at less than 10% of the area. The experience of bouldering outdoors was at the same time both very similar to and very different from bouldering indoors, and I think we all had quite a good time."
And that was that! Here's my version of the story, but in pictures.

Gillian Cloughley63 weken geledenHi Dougie! ok so this is really random! Im not sure if you remeber me but I went to Canada with Ali. I met you a couple of times a few years back.....anyway I am in London just now and trying desperately to get in touch with Ali and Reeks! I have lost both there numbers in a terrible drunken accident and have bebo'd and emaile dthem both desperately trying to catch them! unfortunately as much fun as bebo is Ali doesnt seem to check his site in weeks. Anyway you are my last resort! Do you happen to have a mobile number for either of them or both of them would be even better! I am in London already and staying to wednesday. I would love to catch up with them both so could you possibly send me a wee bebo message (email probably better if providing numbers) I would so so so appreciate that! Sorry for the utter randomness they appear to be very uncontactable! hope you are well otherwise and i wait patiently for your mail Thanks again Gill!

"A kiss is not a contract but its very nice, its very nice. Just because you've been exploring my mouth doesn't mean you get to take an expedition further south".

As you can see my art skills are amazingly superb and wonderful. Even the cake is slanted- thats how good and realistic I can draw.
