I've been almost a workaholic since I started packing bags and cleaning shelves in Quinnsworth, Drumcondra on the 29th of July 1995. Back then, I used to cycle to and from school (almost) 5 days per week, and to and from work four, five, six or seven days per week. Then, as I got older and was easily lead by the lure of the automobile, I started driving more and cycling less. Gradually, I became dependant upon my car, particularly when I started working in Sutton. In 2001, I started working in Blanch, which is about 13km from my home. For some crazy unknown reason, in August 2005, I was inspired to buy a bicycle. I bought the cheapest one in Halford's in Coolock (after walking there from Dublin 9), and I've been cycling to and from work since. Still not fit enough to play sports, but in much better shape than I had spiralled into over the years.
Living in Tenerife!
I'm now enjoying a twelve month sabbatical in southern Tenerife.
I'm due to return to work in April, and I intend going back until early-mid 2014.
By that stage, I shoud have enough saved for a hefty deposit on an apartment or house, so I'll move over here, buy a place, marry a shot-girl and open up an internet cafe / coffee shop with Tom!
This is where I want to spend the bulk of my life, but not right now. Due to my lack of Spanish, I am locked into the "British ex-pat" type of job where you are worth a fifth of what you'd be worth in an English-speaking country.
So, with that in mind, I hope to study Spanish and computing part time, for my five years in Ireland.
It will keep my options open regarding business and work, and make me feel less like a "bloody foreigner"!
The Future
I´d like to say that it is innovations such as the fuel cell that will ensure our energy independance and keep us from getting entangled in risky and murky conflict overseas. We can be strong and energy-independant with the right combination of creative thinking, science, and support from the people and the government. I urge support for any alternative fuels vehicle purchase programs and any other initiatives that are designed to promote and encourage development of dependable, sustainable sources of energy.
Films:
Matrix Trilogy, Rush Hour, anything with lots of brainless humour or huge explosions.
Music And Films
Music:
Ultra-Sonic, The Prodigy, Moby, Scooter, Ayla, Thousands of one-hit-wonder DJ's.
Scared Of
Global warming, my cars being stolen - I worked nights, and on my nights off, I would watch. I had 2 baseball bats strategically positioned so if I caught somebody near any of my cars...
Happiest When
Working, sleeping, listening to music, on the radio (not at the moment), driving, watching the Simpsons, eating (at least five servings of pork per week), reading, dancing, walking.
Books
Bob Ludlum, Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler, Jared Diamond, Tim Flannery...

  • Jesse Jackson - Democratic National Convention Address delivered 18 July 1984, San Francisco

    Taken from:
    http://www.americanrhetoric.com/spee...

    Thank you very much.

Tonight we come together bound by our faith in a mighty God, with genuine respect and love for our country, and inheriting the legacy of a great Party, the Democratic Party, which is the best hope for redirecting our nation on a more humane, just, and peaceful course.

This is not a perfect party. We are not a perfect people. Yet, we are called to a perfect mission. Our mission: to feed the hungry; to clothe the naked; to house the homeless; to teach the illiterate; to provide jobs for the jobless; and to choose the human race over the nuclear race.

We are gathered here this week to nominate a candidate and adopt a platform which will expand, unify, direct, and inspire our Party and the nation to fulfill this mission. My constituency is the desperate, the damned, the disinherited, the disrespected, and the despised. They are restless and seek relief. They have voted in record numbers. They have invested the faith, hope, and trust that they have in us. The Democratic Party must send them a signal that we care. I pledge my best not to let them down.

There is the call of conscience, redemption, expansion, healing, and unity. Leadership must heed the call of conscience, redemption, expansion, healing, and unity, for they are the key to achieving our mission. Time is neutral and does not change things. With courage and initiative, leaders change things.

No generation can choose the age or circumstance in which it is born, but through leadership it can choose to make the age in which it is born an age of enlightenment, an age of jobs, and peace, and justice. Only leadership -- that intangible combination of gifts, the discipline, information, circumstance, courage, timing, will and divine inspiration -- can lead us out of the crisis in which we find ourselves. Leadership can mitigate the misery of our nation. Leadership can part the waters and lead our nation in the direction of the Promised Land. Leadership can lift the boats stuck at the bottom.

I have had the rare opportunity to watch seven men, and then two, pour out their souls, offer their service, and heal and heed the call of duty to direct the course of our nation. There is a proper season for everything. There is a time to sow and a time to reap. There's a time to compete and a time to cooperate.

I ask for your vote on the first ballot as a vote for a new direction for this Party and this nation -- a vote of conviction, a vote of conscience. But I will be proud to support the nominee of this convention for the Presidency of the United States of America. Thank you.

I have watched the leadership of our party develop and grow. My respect for both Mr. Mondale and Mr. Hart is great. I have watched them struggle with the crosswinds and crossfires of being public servants, and I believe they will both continue to try to serve us faithfully.

I am elated by the knowledge that for the first time in our history a woman, Geraldine Ferraro, will be recommended to share our ticket.

Throughout this campaign, I've tried to offer leadership to the Democratic Party and the nation. If, in my high moments, I have done some good, offered some service, shed some light, healed some wounds, rekindled some hope, or stirred someone from apathy and indifference, or in any way along the way helped somebody, then this campaign has not been in vain.

For friends who loved and cared for me, and for a God who spared me, and for a family who understood, I am eternally grateful.

If, in my low moments, in word, deed or attitude, through some error of temper, taste, or tone, I have caused anyone discomfort, created pain, or revived someone's fears, that was not my truest self. If there were occasions when my grape turned into a raisin and my joy bell lost its resonance, please forgive me. Charge it to my head and not to my heart. My head -- so limited in its finitude; my hea

  • Dangerous Spaghetti Bolognese

I broke down the cost of making bolognese over here.
The list below makes approx ten portions for ME, sometimes only eight, but generally ten!
It takes about an hour to cook each pan, and below is enough ingredients for two pans.
    It's damn nice, too.
I haven't included the price for oil, pepper or electricity as I haven't a clue what they work out at.
At eight portions, the average portion costs €2.34.
At ten portions, the average portion costs €1.87.

    Spaghetti (Wholewheat) 0.5 kg (€0.86) x2: €1.72
    Minced beef 1.0 kg (€5.85) x2: €11.70
    Ragu Bolognese sauce 0.26 kg (€1.38) x2: €2.76
    Salsa picante 0.11 kg (€0.97) x0.5: €0.49
    Peppers (jar) 0.285 kg (€1.15) x1: €1.15
    Frozen mixed veg 1.0 kg (€0.90) x1: €0.90

Extra virgin olive oil 1.0 ltr (€2.99)
Ground black pepper 0.045 kg (€0.79)

    Total €18.72
