- Me, Myself, and I
- New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shirley Jump spends her days writing romantic comedies for Harlequin NeXt and Romance (Miracle on Christmas Eve, November 2007) as well as Kensington Books (Really Something, December 2007) to feed her shoe addiction and avoid cleaning the toilets. She cleverly finds writing time by feeding her kids junk food, allowing them to dress in the clothes they find on the floor and encouraging the dogs to double as vacuum cleaners.
She has no other skills (honest) except cooking, and shares recipes on her blog (http://www.shirleyjump.blogspot) so it's a really good thing the book gig pays the bills and keeps her well-heeled.
For excerpts, behind the book stories and more, visit her website at www.shirleyjump.com.
- New Release: November
- MIRACLE ON CHRISTMAS EVE is coming out in stores the first week of November!
She's given up on Christmas; he needs a Christmas miracle. Can a child help Mrs. Claus find her Santa? - New Release: December
- And then, December 4th, look for REALLY SOMETHING, my newest hot romantic comedy from Zebra Books!
She's looking for revenge...he's looking for answers. Getting even has never been so much fun! - UK Only Release
- This Christmas, a new novella! Released in the UK only (don't worry, North American fans, you can either order it from Amazon.co.uk or wait till next year), "Snowbound Bride" in CHRISTMAS WEDDINGS is a heartwarming story about a rekindled love between two wounded hearts.
- Coming Soon...
- Next year is a busy year! With SWEETHEART LOST AND FOUND, I'll be launching a Wedding Planners series with Linda Goodnight, Myrna Mackenzie, Melissa McClone, Melissa James and Susan Meier (look for that in April!). Also another Harlequin Next (REFORM OF THE MARRIAGE PHOBIC) in July, and another new romance in July (BOARDROOM BRIDE AND GROOM). Many more books to come later in the year!

All Decked Out for Halloween
It's a lot easier to deck out my Bebo page than my website for Halloween (wish my website was this easy! I'm sure there are easier ways to do my website but I'm not QUITE that web-savvy!). My house is all decked out for Halloween -- the first time ever this year. My kids are older so they talked me into a fake graveyard out front, complete with bones coming out of one of the graves, and lighted pumpkins (permanent ones, so we have them next year), a fog machine for inside the house, a wraith for in the window, cobwebs everywhere (real and fake, LOL).
Anyway, it's been great fun. Now to find a place to STORE all this stuff!
And in the meantime, I'm counting down the days until MIRACLE ON CHRISTMAS EVE is released. It may be in your store in the next couple days (some distributors load the new Harlequin Romances early) so look for it soon!!!

Shoes are Like Puppies
My conference at RWA is only five days long. Not even that for me this year, since I'm leaving a day early to go dolphin training.
And yet, I have already bought three--count 'em, three--new pairs of shoes. A cute little pair of sandals with cherries on them (oh, they were too cute to pass up!!). Some wine-colored Steve Madden wedge peekaboo toe platforms (wine goes with everything, right? :-) and black lace with crystal high heeled killers that I wore to my Dad's wedding that cost so much they have to be conference shoes, too. But they ROCK to no end, so I love them and can't wait to wear them. I wear them sometimes with jeans because they are shoes that ROCK, no lie. (There's a picture of them on my regular blog: www.shirleyjump.blogspot.com)
And yet, I walk through the shoe department at Macy's and salivate. LITERALLY. It's some kind of Pavlovian response. I see the new shoes and want to take EVERY PAIR HOME. They're like puppies and kittens to me. I love them ALL. Every single one. (Okay maybe not some of the Clarks and Rockports. I draw the line somewhere).
And so does my pocketbook. Sigh. Maybe there's a shoe lottery. Like if you hit it, you can have every single pair. Of course, I'd need to win it for both seasons of the year, because in a couple months, they'll be putting out the boots ;-)

Hope I Don't End up on Animals Gone Wild!
When I go to the RWA conference in Dallas next month, I will be ending that week of fun in TX with a REALLY COOL bang--
Dolphin training!
One of my readers works at the aquarium in Corpus Christi, so I'll be going down there on the last day I'm in TX to work with the dolphins. I am so excited, I'm bopping, which is very embarrassing to my children.
Let me explain. Bopping is when moms bounce their heads along to the radio. I don't just bounce my head. I sing. Out loud. In front of other people. I can't sing. Can't carry a tune if you put it in my hands and tape it down. And the bopping...well, let's just say that's not a very pretty sight, either. So my children are appropriately humiliated and constantly admonish me NOT to bop.
Since my entire mission in life, and my reason for being a mom, is to embarrass them, I continue to bop.
(Hold on...just saw some cool shoes on a commercial. Gotta pause to watch...darn. Lens Crafters commercial, not a commercial FOR the shoes, which means I can't find out where to buy them. What is wrong with Lens Crafters? Tell me where to get those shoes!).
Anyway, I will be putting a dolphin trainer in a book for sure, unless the dolphins go bezerk and attack me and I end up in an Animals Gone Wild video on FX or something. Since the chances of that are probably one in a gazillion, look for a dolphin trainer book in 2009 or 2010 ;-). [First I have to come up with the idea, propose it, and sell it, so it takes a bit to get that ball rolling].
And, I bought a VERY COOL NEW digital camera, which arrives tomorrow, to go with me to the dolphin tank. The new Olympus Stylus 770 SW, which can go UNDERWATER and take pictures. Is that not the coolest thing since e-mail? (I got the blue one). If you go to the Amazon page for the camera (which was the cheapest price, BY FAR for it, BTW), you can see some sample images that other people (click on customer images) took while they were SNORKELING and SCUBA DIVING. (on my regular blog: http://www.shirleyjump.blogspot.com, I have a pic of it and a link to the Amazon page...is there a way to add all that stuff in a Bebo blog?)
Okay, yes, I am just a tad pumped. Very cool.
I live in the Midwest, so there's no snorkeling here, LOL, so I won't get to try it out underwater for a while (and I don't have a pool) but I only have to wait a month for the Dolphin training (actually not exactly a month...29 days) so I'll post pics soon!

I hope your holidays have been filled with joy! May 2008 bring many wonderful things your way.
Thanks for the add, Shirley!
All best-
Steph Tyler
Hi Shirley - Didn't get to bump into you at National, so I thought I'd better stop by and say hello. Hope you're writing up a storm.
Linda
Hey Shirley,
Hope you survived the dolphin experience and kept your new shoes dry. Hate to tell you that shoes and puppies, well, they aren't really the same. Last time I checked (unless you have a ghost or small child in the house) they stay where you put them, don't piddle on the floor, or scratch the door at 3:00 am to go outside! While I haven't bought myself any shoes in the past year, I got a cute pair of blue sequined sandals for my four year old. Wish they'd made them in a bigger size. Until then, I'll have to live vicariously through my daughter and scour the sale racks at Target for her.
Kim
Welcome to BEBO!
Glo
Happy Birthday!
Just kidding. Hope you get to do lots of shopping.
Hope you have a great day tomorrow. What a mile stone. 7/7/07. Now if you were going to be 77, that would be really freaky
Kim
Shirley, you've found a fun place to hang out here at bebo, and it's not nearly as much work as myspace. I love being able to post our books, too. Have you posted your latest?
Hmmm. You're not in Chicago then. They have great ethnic foods, although I'd been known to stop at Taco Bell at 2 am for a crunchy taco or two. It's been a while but in Chi-town there's Greek Town for Greek, Little Italy for Italian-The Rosebud if you can get a reservation, Little Bucharest for Hungarian, plenty of Thai, Chinese, Indian, seafood. Looks like you'll have to take a drive. In Phoenix we have great Mexican food and steak and potatos, but not much else. Sigh. Okay, I just ate one of those horrible green salads for lunch and now I'm talking real food.
And shop all you want, just leave a Frango Mint or two for me.
Thanks for the hunger pains
Kim
I think Rascal was put on this earth to make me into a better housekeeper. She finds paper clips, rubber bands, things I don't even realize are on the floor. Then it's a chase to get them out of her mouth.
Morgan
I wish I could get into my closet. Problem is any time I go near it, the dog runs after me and tries to grab whatever is on the floor, including shoes, tote bags, you name it.
It's usually a race to the room so I can shut the door before she enters.
Morgan Mandel
It's funny I have so many purses, yet I usually don't have time to change them.
Morgan
Me shop? Shopping ranks up there with a root canal. Ugh. When I have the money, I can't find anyting to buy. When I don't (and that's quite often with two small children) I see everything including the kitchen sink
Of course I did have a shoe fetish when I lived in Chicago...but heels and a small town where the cowboys still ride horses to the bars and there are no sidewalks are a killer. Plus, after two kids, most of them didn't fit anyway. Somebody at the thrift store got lucky-especially with my lizard skin heels. Sigh. I don't like Macy's. I have no idea what Marshall Fields was thinking. But as long as they bring the Frango Mints back by July when I go back to Chicago for a family reunion, everything will be fine. For me the best part of traveling is the FOOD, with alcohol coming in a very close second.
Kim
Unfortunately, I can't wear the shoes I'd love to wear. That's what happens when you get old.
At least I can still buy purses - that's almost as good.
Morgan
My problem is if I have one piece of cake, I usually go back for another.
Morgan
Hi Shirley,
One thing I know - I'll never get back to my wedding weight - that's too high a goal.
5 or 10 pounds off would really be nice, but I'm too weak-willed.
Morgan
Hi Shirley,
So far the day is going smoothly.
By the way, I just love your profile photo.
Morgan Mandel
Thanks for friending me
Thanks for adding me, Shirley!
Hi Shirley. Nice to see you here. Long live Kensington authors! See ya at RWA.
