About Me

Tagline
Scotland's national dance company
Me, Myself, and I
Scottish Ballet is Scotland's National Dance Company, run under the award-winning direction of Ashley Page OBE. With classical influences meeting modern dance styles, the Company presents a wide range of high-quality dance to audiences across Scotland, the UK and abroad. Scottish Ballet has a diverse, vibrant repertoire, ranging from new versions of the classics (The Nutcracker, Cinderella), through to seminal pieces from 20th century modern ballet repertoire, including work by George Balanchine and Frederick Ashton, and extending into signature pieces by living choreographers such as William Forsythe, Hans van Manen and Siobhan Davies. The Company is also keen to explore new pieces and regularly premieres work in Scotland. Scottish Ballet believes in pushing the boundaries of dance, with recent productions breaking away from the traditional image of ballet by using music from contemporary artists including Aphex Twin and Nine Inch Nails.
Music
Everything from Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky to Wire, Radiohead and Aphex Twin.
Likes
Anyone who loves dance and creative people from all walks of life.
Next production
The Nutcracker

A magical dolls house, an evil governess, and a nutcracker doll who may just be a handsome prince in disguise…

This Christmas Scottish Ballet invites you to go back to the beginning as the Company revives one of its most-talked about productions to date, The Nutcracker; Artistic Director Ashley Page’s fresh take on ETA Hoffmann’s original story, Nutcracker and the King of Mice.

One snowy Christmas Eve, Marie hears the story of a brave young man who saves a princess from a horrible curse, and as she sleeps she is transported into a surreal dream world where she must learn to fend for herself and discover the secret of true love.

The Nutcracker calls at Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Aberdeen and Newcastle throughout December, January and February. For full details and how to book, head to www.scottishballet.co.uk

  • 40th anniversary exhibition and book

Scottish Ballet presents an exhibition examining the art of movement. As the Company celebrates its 40th anniversary, we are invited to look back at its rich history through spectacular photographs capturing both the perfection and poise of performance and the sweat and intense focus behind the scenes, in rehearsals and backstage.

The exhibition also features a newly commissioned film Mercury, created by Scottish artist Daniel Warren, who worked with the Company on short film Public: Private in 2004. In Mercury, we encounter a previously unseen, slowed down world of motion featuring dancers from Scottish Ballet. Dramatic high-definition sequences are interspersed with documentary glimpses of the intensive processes and conversations which lead to the creation of movement.

Stills from the film can be viewed here: http://www.scottishballet.co.uk/what....

  • Put on your Ruby Slippers - Scottish Ballet is turning 40!

Reaching forty is a milestone in any company’s history and we’d love you to help us celebrate by giving Scottish Ballet's dancers ballet shoes as a birthday present through the Ruby Slipper Fund.

With around 100 performances each year and a rigorous training and rehearsal schedule, our 36 dancers go through around 1,200 pairs of pointe shoes every year. Pointe shoes are quickly worn through: many dancers have a few pairs of shoes which they rotate throughout the day, while others can go through two pairs of shoes per week! Pointe shoes might look identical on stage, but up close, each female dancer needs to have shoes individually crafted to her feet, and the male dancers use a variety of different shoes too, from the classic soft leather shoes to character shoes and jazz boots.

You can purchase anything from one pair of pointe shoes to a year’s supply, and choose the dancer that you would like to see performing in them, and you will receive an extra special thank you for your support, determined by the level of your contribution the Ruby Slipper Fund. Follow this link for more info: http://www.scottishballet.co.uk/supp...

You can make a donation via our e-shop (http://www.scottishballet.co.uk/supp... or by contacting the Development team at support@scottishballet.co.uk for further information.
