- The Kick Team are a ministry of Youth For Christ. Started in 2000, with year out volunteers who love football but have a passion to share their faith about Jesus. Since then the team have served both long term in locations and on short term missions all across the UK from the Shetland Islands to Teignmouth and overseas from Granada to Seattle.
Working alongside churches schools and throughout the community the team use football to build relationships and earn the right to share their faith.
The team have consisted of both male and females but have at it's heart a passion to share their faith.

stewardship - why bother?
'... the lord of those servants ... settled accounts ...' Matthew 25:19
Keep your eyes on the prize, I like that terminology – it’s very easy to get bogged down, I know that having been in a period of ill health a while back – but it’s important that we keep our eyes on the prize – hope this thought helps encourage you through the week, whatever you’re doing.
So, to recap. God gives us all good things, and we are stewards of them for Him. He gives us what we can cope with, and He will only expect us to do what we can. He wants us to do the right thing, and make these gifts grow - but He won't force us to. We get to make our own decisions. This is great, but at the end of the day, why should we bother? One reason is before us: 'After a long time the lord of those stewards came and settled accounts with them'. (Matt 25:19) It may seem like it's been a long time since Jesus was here, and it may feel like it could be forever before He comes back, but He will come back. He hasn't changed His mind, or His plan. The first time, Jesus was here to save. The next time, He'll be here to reign; and when He does, He will reward His good stewards. Check this out: 'If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward' (Luke 12:43 NLT). He's coming back, and He'll be looking for those who have stewarded well. What more reason could you want than to please the King of kings Himself? So don't get weary or bogged down, but keep your eyes on the prize; and imaging JC saying 'Well done' to you when He returns. Awesome.

avoid a barney!
Okay so we talk about the weather a lot in this country but at the moment it seems reasonable – I guess this last week would have had Noah heading for the woodpile and grabbing a hammer and nails!
Remember to pray for folks who have been affected by the horrendous weather.
I was in Arbroath at the weekend with a bunch of young Christians who love their sport and love Jesus, it was great to see their enthusiasm – pray for them as they witness through their sport.
Have a great week.
Barneys are bad!
'... "Let's not have fighting between us" ...' Genesis 13:8
We're not talking about huge purple dinosaurs here, but the kind of barney when it's your face that turns purple; from shouting! Abram and Lot could have fallen out badly when it came to parting ways and deciding who would get which bit of land. But Abram realised that an argument was not the way forward so he bit the bullet and did something about it. We can learn a couple of things from old Abe here that help us in handling conflict and confrontations in our own relationships with family and friends. 1) Don't wait for someone else to make the first move. Abe realised that, left unchecked, a problem could arise so he took the initiative and nipped it in the bud. Growth and blessing call for wisdom so be wise, and if you sense a problem between you and someone else, try to make the first move in putting things right. 2) Don't worry about missing out on something; God will make it up to you. Lot chose the lush fields when Abe gave him the choice and it might have looked to Abram that he was left with the dud end of the deal. But read on to the end of the story, and you'll see that it all went pear shaped for Lot, but Abram's decisions blessed all mankind. God's plans for you are bigger than who wins the argument. Try to be a peacemaker, and leave the barneys behind you.

get what you deserve!?
Thankfully we don’t get what we deserve!
I’ve been travelling all over the place this week, really enjoyed catching up with friends who are involved in sports ministry. Hope whatever you’re doing you’re managing to encourage and support each other and keep your eyes on the goal.
We don't get what we deserve
'... want to give the man who was hired last the same as I gave you ...' Matt 20:14
Ever had a summer job? They're often not the greatest jobs in the world, but at least while you are plucking dead chickens, stuffing envelopes or picking strawberries you can look forward to the end of the week when you will get your hard-earned cash! After all, you are getting what you deserve. Jesus told the story of a bloke who hired some workers: some at 6am, some at 9am, some at noon, some at 3pm and some at 5pm, one hour before quitting time. Amazingly, he paid them all the same wage. Nobody pays a day's wage for one hours work, but God does. A last-minute convert receives the same grace as a lifetime servant. Have a quick look at Luke 23:40-42 and read about the thief on the cross next to Jesus. Did he deserve to be saved right at the end of his life? Well no. But if God gave us what we deserved none of us would be saved. Grace means getting the life we don't deserve! The Prodigal Son wasted his possessions. But he returned. And when he did '... his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and...kissed him' (Luke 15:20 NKJ). The Father loves to bless us, even when we don't deserve it.

Smells and shadows
'IN THE SHADOW OF HIS HAND HE HID ME.' ISAIAH 49:2
After visiting the Balkan region of South-eastern Europe, reporter James Creelman wrote, 'I learned that the world's supply of rose oil comes from the Balkan Mountains. The thing that interested me was that the roses had to be gathered during the darkest hours. Initially this seemed to be a relic of superstition. But as I investigated I learned that 40% of the fragrance disappears in the light of day.' Do you want to make a difference in the world? Well, God wants your life to be really smelly (check out 2 Corinthians 2:14-16) and you'll need to let God work with you in the shadows before you come into the spotlight. Before the prophet Elijah called down fire from heaven in front of the evil pagan priests on Mount Carmel, God told him to go and hide himself at a brook known as Cherith (1 Kings 17). The country was in a mess and people were dying but Elijah needed to sit tight in this craggy Nowhereville until God said the time was right for him to go and confront the King. Stories like this make us think differently about being in the shadow, don't they? Like Elijah you need to learn to embrace the shadows, enjoy the sidelines, to discover God and grow in them, then stride out confidently with something to say that's worth listening to!

'ouch' the Scottish exam results landed today - this may have come as a pleasant suprise to some - great, but it may have shocked a few more. If you or someone you know suddenly finds themselves in a 'oh no what i am going to do now situation!' what about a gap year - you could use your gifts and talents and gain experiences you could never have imagined or thought possible. Check out www.yfcone.com for more info and remember the truth in Jeremiah 29 v 11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Hi, hope the summers going well, of course if you’re down south the holidays have just started. Well whether you’re at Imagine, Soul Survivor New Wine or sunning yourself on some beach somewhere I hope you’re having fun.
This week’s thought is a bit random but it’s got a good message, so apologies if you’ve got an allergy to feathers!!
Flying in formation
'LET US NOT GIVE UP MEETING TOGETHER.' HEBREWS 10:25
Geese. They flap around with their long bandy necks, honking (ie making a loud noise; not a smell!) What could we ever learn from a goose? Well chew on this: Every autumn geese fly south to where the climate is warmer. But they don't just set off in a random flappage of feathers, they fly together in a 'V' formation. Geese know that to complete the long trip, they have to fly united. Air waves created each time a bird flaps its wings provide uplift for the one behind, conserving its energy and enabling it to double its flying range. A goose flying solo could never complete the trip but in formation the youngest, the oldest and even the weakest get there. In other words, they do as a team what they could never do alone. When the Bible says, 'Let us not give up meeting together... but let us encourage one another,' it's saying, 'Stay in formation! Enjoy the uplift!' Christians aren't meant to fly solo, whatever their calling, gifting or maturity. We're all part of Team Jesus, created to fly as a unit with other believers. Sometimes a goose will go off alone and find itself adrift. Before long though its wings become heavy from exhaustion and it loses altitude. There's only one thing it can do; get back with the group. How about you? Are you flying in formation today?

I've come too far to turn back! 21 Dec 2007
'IF THEY HAD BEEN THINKING OF THE COUNTRY THEY HAD LEFT, THEY WOULD HAVE HAD OPPORTUNITY TO RETURN' HEBREWS 11:15
Any pilot will tell you that there's a point of no return. When you reach the end of the runway there's nowhere to go but up. It's fly or die! In Hebrews 11 you'll see a list of totally normal people who did some mad and crazy things because even when they were going through the hardest times imaginable, they stuck to their vision. If you never look back, going back is not even an option. When you decide to follow God not everybody will be happy about it. Your vision could be their nightmare. Your success could prove all things they said about you wrong or remind them of the vision they abandoned. Usually the hardest place to follow your vision is at home. There are always so many people keen to remind you of what you used to be like and they're often unwilling to believe you can change! In order for God to move us on, the first thing he does is to make us uncomfortable. Until your faith factor is bigger than your fear factor you won't move! If you're at all comfortable, settled and content, don't expect God to give you more; you're not ready for it. When you start taking risks you'll pray like you've never prayed and stay as close to God as possible because it's all you've got. There's nothing like that sense of feeling frustrated and boxed-in to get your full attention on God. Bottom line: when you decide, 'I've come too far to turn back,' you'll start to see God's hand at work in your life!

Hi Kick. Is it Grayzo that runs this? Missed you last night through in Edinburgh at the CIS meeting if it is you. Hope you're doing well and looking forward to camp! Stephen
Happy birthday for the 6th! Blessings and much good stuff to you all... NESYFC
That would be good. My son was with you in Scalloway when you were there. I had forgotten, so I asked him and he said that they had had a cool time with you all. Trevor Watt was the main organiser from Shetland I think
Thai looks like a cool site. I found out about it at the SU I go to.
