You know what? I don't warrant a biog in the Third Person. So, I am Dave. I play punk-folk music alone, but sometimes with other people.

I love, and I mean Love, playing live. I play anywhere and every where. 2008 and will be filled with gigs all over the country, so message me and I'll come play for you and your friends. Beer and a place to sleep is all I ask, oh, and good conversation :)

I write around 3 songs a week, but usually only get happy enough to play one of these. The rest are poetry in effect, but not sissy flowery stuff, more 'Dave's annoyed with something' stuff. Anything that doesn't rhyme is a mini-novel, I stole that from someone, answers on a post-card.

  • Still alive

I should really set an alarm to update the news page here.

The single came out last week (17th March), and I'll know how many it sold and then how much is being given to The Prostate Cancer Charity in the middle of april when figures are published. If you did buy a copy, thank you very much, if you didn't then there is still time! It's on iTunes (easy from the link on this bebo page) and Amazon.

For a wee while on the opening week it was outselling the new Frank Turner album, but to be honest I have no idea what the Amazon's Sales Rank even means! Could be that no one bought a copy of Turners album on one day, and one person (either me or the wife) bouht a copy of my single. Who knows! It was something like number 4000 out of the 15,000 mp3 bundles available.

Gig wise the summer is looking like it's going to be awesome! There's a few festivals I'm booked for, including Lexapalooza in London for Breast Cancer Campaign and Rebellion in Blackpool (Whose headlines include The King Blues, Flogging Molly and Goldie Looking Chain). These will be awesome.

My next Glasgow gig is Saturday night (4th April) at Nice'n'Sleazys supporting the legend that is Jonah Matranga. There's a small number of tickets still available, so feel free to come along.

There was something else that I was gonna write about, but I've totally forgotten.

  • Didn't think we'd need any more help, but people let people down.

    Anyways,

Folk may know that I'm supposed to be going out on Tour with Roscoe Vacant next week.

It was supposed to start on Tuesday 3rd of March at The Paisley Arts Centre. Although, we've just got word now that the gig is cancelled.

    So.....

    I'm asking, nay pleading, hoping:

Can anyone help us out with a show in Scotland on this date? Perhaps a house show to you and your mates? Where we can pass the hat or something to try and get some funds to make our gig in York the next day? That would be really awesome if anyone could help.

We're not looking for anything grand. just a place to play our songs to you and your mates.

Please get in touch, or repost or something :)

  • Press Release: The sinner and the saints

On Beat records announce the release of the debut single by Dave Hughes
entitled "The sinner and the saints".
Release date: 17th of March 2009

THE SINNER AND THE SAINTS is the debut single by Glasgow based riot-folk
    singer Dave Hughes.

It will be available as a bundle with the exclusive b-sides "Walk you
home" and "Daddy fought the law (studio demo)" from the 17th of March 2009.

The single will be available from: iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, eMusic,
Amazon, Lala, Shockhound, and Amie Street.

Dave Hughes will be donating his profits from the sale of the single to
    The Prostate Cancer Charity.

The Prostate Cancer Charity aims to encourage, support and carry out
research into the causes, prevention and treatment of prostate cancer
and also research the impact of living with the disease. March 2009 is
    Prostate Cancer Awareness month.
    http://www.prostate-cancer.org.uk

Prostate cancer affects almost as many men as breast cancer affects
women. There are 35,000 men diagnosed every year with prostate cancer
compared to 44,000 women with breast cancer. 10,000 men die of prostate
cancer every year; just over 12,000 women die of breast cancer each year.

"The sinner and the saints" is a cautionary tale of the change in
American politics as seen from the viewpoint of someone who lived
through Blair's "things can only get better" win in '97 and subsequent
aftermath. The track features Canadian sessionist Moritz Behm with a
    dual-violin attack.

The full A-side can be heard online at www.myspace.com/davehughesmusic

The full bundle and B-sides can be previewed at Amazon at :

    Hey Dave,

Thanks very much! Music festival went well thanks, could have had more people there but was good! Weather held out unlike last year. I reckon the because we wont have to waste time applying for funding then next year is going to be THE year.

Sorry I haven't made any gigs, unfortunately I spend most Friday and Saturday nights working! Hope you're getting on okay.
