Welcome to the official Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Society (LGBT Soc) bebo page at The Queen's University of Belfast.
We are here for the entire LGBT community at Queen's by providing information and group and social activities. If you're coming to Queen's in January/September 2009, or are already a student, we are a friendly, diverse and supportive group of people who would love to get to know you and welcome you to Northern Ireland and the Belfast area.
QUB LGBT welcomes people who identify as LGBT but also curious, open-minded and heterosexual people alike who wish to be involved in campaign issues or just provide that extra bit of support to an LGBT friend.
The Society is fully recognised within the University of Queens, winning the "Best new/ most improved society of the year award" for 2006/7.

March Meetings
Hey all,
Firstly I'd like to thank everyone who voted in last week's elections. I didn't win but I now know I have over 450 friends so we aren't alone folks and that gives me hope that one day Queen's will no longer be ruled by the narrow minded and bigoted majority there is today. Politics is a harsh world but I would urge every single one of you next year to run for Student Council and for the executive positions, the more seats we get the more of a collective voice we have.
Last week the email stated that Taboo, the SU's gay night, started this weds 11th March however this has been pushed back due to a double booking of the venue! So next Weds, 18th March, Taboo will be kicking off in style and absolutely everyone is invited so bring all of your friends, gay, straight or questioning for a laugh and a dance next week. Entry before 10 is free. Bunatee Bar, basement of the SU.
Friday the 20th of March sees the release of 'Lesbian Vampire Killers' and we're planning to go see it so keep your eyes open next week for cinema times and we'll head into the Odeon/Movie House next friday with a social pint afterwards. Should be a showing around 7pm but I will confirm this next week for all who are interested :-D
We'll have a general meeting Thursday 26th of March at 8pm in the Club Rooms, top floor of the SU so come along and catch up with all of the gossip!
Finally, and I know there's a lot of info in this email, the Belfast Film Festival returns again with their same-sex cinema. We'll be headed to the QFT to see Chris and Don, Wednesday April 1st at 9:30. £5.50 for students. Check out www.belfastfilmfestival.org<http://www.belfastfilmfestival.org> for the other two same-sex offerings.
So hopefully you can make it to one of these events and I'll see you all soon,
Regards,

Thursday 10th Of September is World Suicide Awareness Day.
To mark this event, community groups from across Belfast are participating in an “Walk of Life” to raise awareness of the issue. Groups from across the city are leaving their perspective headquarters to march to City Hall for 6am, to mark this as a Belfast wide event. The event is scheduled at this early time to symbolise travelling through darkness and into light as an expression of hope for those bereaved through suicide.
We would like to march from our building Memorial House waring Street at 5.00am
Should you wish to become involved in this event, please contact myself on the numbers or email address below.
