Opportunity cost of a relationship
Being in a relationship is about more than just sacrificing time and money... it is about sacrificing other people. Not only do you lose time with your friends and family, but you lose your chance to be in a relationship with someone else.
The opportunity cost of a relationship is huge. Those couple of years that you're with someone means that your missing out on others. The cute girl at the bookstore, the co-worker who you eat lunch with everyday, the girl who kept eye fucking you at the party/club, all of these people become missed connections when you're in an established relationship.
Pick wisely who you decide to settle down with. The person who becomes your significant other shouldn't be your best investment at the moment, he/she should be your best investment for the coming years as well. They should grow with you, mature with you, and offer a return that no one else can possibly compete with. And if you find yourself holding on to toxic assets, perhaps it's best to cut your losses early and avoid complete disaster in the future.1 Comment 95 days

Be Extraordinary
The truth is, being extraordinary is very difficult. It means surpassing everyone else at something, being the best at what you do, no matter what it is. Everyone wants to be successful, everyone wants to gain respect, everyone wants to be admired, and yet, very few people will actually put in the hard work and dedication needed to achieve excellence...myself included.
Malcolm Gladwell, the author of Outliers talked about the 10,000 hour rule. Basically, you need 10,000 of hard work in order to truly master something. The problem with me is that I don't know what I want to master yet. I am constantly torn by the path I want to embark. Online I can be funny, an angry child, and introspective all on the same site. In real life, my interests are just as varied, I am a sales person, an artist, and an amateur scientist. I enjoy hanging out with friends, shopping, and yet, sometimes I feel like these simple joys need to be sacrificed in order to pursue my passions. A jack of all trades and a master of none is no longer valuable in today's society. I want to be a genius, I want to be the best...I want to be extraordinary.
Do I have what it takes to succeed? I don't know yet. But I am determined to try. I don't believe that I am necessarily smarter, nor more creative than anyone else...but I am willing to work hard. While everyone talks about their jobs and their careers, I silently shake my head knowing that true success comes from following your passions. I know people who would envy the life or things I have... and yet I am hardly satisfied. And work? Yes, it's great if you're only looking at superficial benefits, but it is still a job where I do someone else's bitch work... it is not a place where I can be my own master and produce my own results and run my own business.
Be Extraordinary. Don't let others hold you back, have a dream and a passion and follow it. Believe in yourself and believe in hardwork. And most importantly, there will always be people who will criticize and put down your ideas and pursuits... don't listen to them (Parents included). You are the only judge of your actions.
