Me, Myself, and I
The synthesizer-crazed duo met whilst training as double-decker bus drivers in Glasgow, learning only of each other's electronic music interests whilst passing under a low bridge at a terrifyingly high speed.

Starting off with some basic equipment and a laptop computer, Emotiquon gathered their ideas over long sessions in front of flashing lights and cult television comedy shows. Connecting their powerful brains together (using two metal collanders, a car battery, some jump leads and a food blender), the two began to edit their recordings down to manageable pop-sized chunks of audio colour.

Emotiquon pursue a love of hypnotic melodies, complex drum rhythms and rolling bass lines, scattering samples from their favourite television programs and films throughout their music:

Shaun Dimensional - Programming, Drums, Guitar & Vocals
James Mechanoid - Sonic Synthesizer Extortionist

  • July Podcast: 2 HOUR SPECIAL - RSI Radio Show with guest DJs Marcel Heese and Voltergeist!

    TRACKLIST @ http://rsiradio.blogspot.com/

Written by Kenny Redstar, host of RSI Radio:

    "Guys!

Got an absolute stormer of a show lined up this week, well if you're into fresh underground techno that is!

On the warm up we've got Voltergeist. A fellow Ayrshire lad who's been making electronic music for 15 years and now runs his own label, Microrave Records. He managed to get some attention with a track featured on Future Music magazine back in July 1998, alongside Autechre, Dave Angel, Kevin Saunderson and Funk D’ Void. He developed his live performance skills by playing at numerous Student Unions and clubs around Glasgow and Edinburgh. In 2003 he met Emotiquon co-writer James Rehill and together they went on to remix artists such as Heaven 17, Enter Shikari & Shitdisco.

The music of Voltergeist is inspired by his love of deep house, abstract electronica, minimal techno, and heavy “blissed-out” dub music. Living in the heart of the Ayrshire countryside is also a major inspiration, surrounded by beautiful woodland waterfalls, rolling hills, and dramatic sunsets on the West Coast over the Isle of Arran. Sound good? You'd better believe it!

When I was arranging Smear's mix for the radio a while back he mentioned to me that he knew Marcel Heese and he'd be keen to do an exclusive for us too. Now, I know RSI is really all about local DJ mixes but I felt I couldn't pass up the opportunity and I have to say, the mix is pretty phenomenal.

Marcel Heese is a resident DJ at the now legendary German club, Tresor. He's an avid fan of Detroit, Chicago, Dub Techno, Ambient, Noise, Industrial, Breakcore and Dubstep to name a few and his current sets are an amalgamation of all those genres but in spite of such diversity he manages to keep them smooth and congruent.

In April 2008 Marcel became part of the prestigious Tresor Headquarters team, besides playing in Germany he has also visited a few foreign clubs in Poland and Slovenia.

His current favourite labels and artists are: Downwards, Counterbalance, Axis, Warp, Tresor, Sähkö, Token, Transmat, FXHE, Basic Channel/Maurizio, Mojuba, Tectonic, Redshape, Bitstream, Robert Hood, Planetary Assault Systems, Jamal Moss aka Hieroglyphic Being, Drexciya, Counterpart, Deepchord, Lerosa, Theo Parrish, Sleeparchive, Ostgut Ton, Sandwell District, Ancient Methods, 2562, Martyn, Vidab. Influences of all those can be heard in Marcel’s exclusive mix for Leith FM, he's chilled out a bit recently, decreased his BPM, adding to increased power in the groove.

  • Grand National - Cut By The Brakes: REMIXED out NOW on iTunes (UK & EUROPE ONLY)!!!

Yup, that's the 8 week Beatport exclusive finished, done and dusted...

The price of the 5 track single on iTunes is £3.95 (as opposed to the £8.95 it was on Beatport) which is MUCH more credit-crunch friendly...

The Beatport exclusivity contract works well for promotion, but would work much better if there weren't the irritating territory restrictions on the release (similarly for iTunes). These restrictions are simply due to the cost of purchasing a worldwide license from Sunday Best...

From now on, all Microrave Records releases will be available to purchase digitally in ANY country. And they'll always be up on Beatport months before the iTunes releases...

For £3.95 you get the original track, and 4 completely different interpretations (featuring Microrave artists Modifier and Voltergeist, Ministry Of Sound darlings The Japanese Popstars, and remix scenesters Emotiquon)

So spend your beer money on a deliciously legal download of the new Grand National single right now!

    Hi Dudes
    how are you doing?

PH1 Record's first physical release is now out, the fantastic Mountains E.P by Glasgow musician Myself. His music is that of ambient techno with hints of shoegaze, house and IDM. You almost feel submerged under the atmosphere of the tracks.

These are the tracks on the EP:
    NOW AND NEAR
    FALFOUR
    C THE SEA
    SCENIC WAY
    CLOSE TO COMFORT
    TRAINS (MR SALMON EDIT)

"Tracks Now and Near, C The Sea and Trains (Mr. Salmon Edit) are available for full track listening on his Last.fm page and an exclusive track Super Nova is available for free download under PH1's first sampler album, so there is plenty of preview material of the skilled musician".

    http://www.last.fm/music/Phiktion

The EP is mail order. To order a copy, please enclose £5 per copy you'd like in a jiffy bag along with these details on a piece of paper: your address, what EP you'd like and how many copies, and mail it to:
