Barbara Haas <misslink>

Wow! Where do you start? Somewhere back, a coon's age ago, I was born into the asphalt jungle of New York City and landed smack inside the household of a hard-hearted cop, of all things. Fortunately for me, his wife was a stay-at-home mother. Unfortunately for them, I was yet another girl, so instead of naming me Bobby, like they had planned, they wound up naming me Barbara. I was the tail end of four children. My brother Bill was born first and then Claire, Jean and me.

The silliest, craziest adventure we've ever experienced as a family was when Kurt took us on a wild ride over 7 European mountain passes, through 3 countries in ONE day! Talk about nutty American tourists! One of the passes was so primitive, there weren't any guardrails. Believe me, it was terrifying at some points, but once he started up the pass, there was no turning around.

The Other Half Of Me
Kurt Mario Haas
My better half. We tied the knot on April 29, 1972

Music
I love traditional sacred music. My favorite female singer is, of course, my oldest daughter, Heidi Haas. She has been gifted by Heaven with the voice of an angel. Helen Barth was my favorite female singer, growing up. She had the sweetest voice. I love to listen to Christian Internet music at www.bbnradio.org and www.rejoice.org.
Films
I'm not much on films. My favorite? I'd say that would be any film starring Danny Kaye. I also like Shirley Temple, "I Love Lucy, " Andy Griffith and Dick Van Dyke. Sorry, but I flunk at T.V. trivia. I grew up without a T.V. and don't want one. It's an absolute time robber.
My Hobbies
My main hobby is computers. God has really blessed me with computer and Internet knowledge which I enjoy sharing with others. We are in full-time prison and Internet ministry where I serve as administrative assistant and web designer. I enjoy introducing others to video mail. You can learn more by contacting me at barbara@misslink.org or (440) 282-1683 or by visiting this web page - http://www.swissvalley.tv
Scared Of
Got to admit, I'm scared skinny of spiders, not snakes though, believe it or not. I even had a pet snake one time. Poor Mom!
Happiest When
I'm happiest and most content when I feel God near and when people find help through our 2, 000+ ministry web pages at www.misslink.org
My Home Business
For the past 5 years, I have managed an online Christian bookstore, offering Bibles, Christian books, music, DVDs, health, food, gifts, decor, toys, church supplies and more. I have set a storewide 20% discount and have free shipping offers. Come, visit my store today at www.swissvalleydiscount.com
My Proudest Achievement
My proudest achievement is my online Children's Chapel, featuring a whole repertoire of Bible story lessons, complete with activities, coloring pages, memory verses, prayers, songs, and over 150 family-friendly links. www.childrenschapel.org

  • Secretary's Day - Wednesday, April 22

Today is Secretary's Day. Well, actually, that's the name it was originally given, when it started way back in 1952. Now, it's known as Administrative Professional's Week and is celebrated for an entire week, this year, April 19-25.

Whatever you do, don't forget to honor that very special church secretary in your life. This dear lady quietly works behind the scenes, often doing things you'd never dream a secretary does. She works tirelessly for many long hours, frequently with very little thanks. She's the lady who helps keep a multitude of things running smoothly at the church.

How about some gift ideas? For starters...

    * You could bless her with a delicate bouquet of freshly cut flowers.

    * Or how about the time-honored box of delectable chocolates?

    * What about a gift certificate to her favorite restaurant?

    * You may want to consider a special gift basket.

    * Since this very special day falls on a Wednesday and so many have their midweek service on Wednesday nights, how about calling her up front to honor and pray for her?

    * Alternately, you could set up a royally decorated chair at the front of the church and have people come up to pin a dollar bill (or better yet, a $5, $10 or $20 bill) on her. Ushers could hand out straight pins in the front of the aisles as people come forward.

Okay, now. How about helping me out by adding your own comments and ideas? We could really get something rolling here!

  • What an awesome God!

Take a look to see what our Hubble Space Telescope found, looking through a black hole in the center of what we call the Whirlpool Galaxy. (In both snapshots below, you can double-click the image to enlarge it.)

How great is our God! If you haven't noticed lately or need a boost in your faith, I highly recommend you order one or more of Louie Giglio's DVDs. Afterwards, you will never be able to look at God the same way. Watching his video will forever change your view of God. How I would love to see every pastor show at least one of his DVDs to his congregation!

You can preview by taking a look at this short clip from one of his videos right now:

Afterwards, you can order his DVDs from this handy link:

Tip: If you order at least two DVDs, you will pay only 99 cents with Super-Saver Ground Shipping.

  • FREE packing materials for military care packages

Did you know the United States Post Office (USPS) will supply for free, to anyone who asks, specially packaged Priority Mail supplies for shipping "care kits" to members of the U.S. military stationed overseas?

Mail sent to overseas military addresses is charged only domestic mail prices. The domestic mail price for the largest Flat-Rate Priority Mail box is $12.95, but for packages to APO/FPO addresses overseas the price is reduced to only $10.95. Flat-Rate boxes are free at any Post Office, or can be ordered online at http://usps.com. Postage, labels and customs forms can be printed online any time using Click-N-Ship here:
    https://sss-web.usps.com/cns/landing.do.

Flat-Rate Priority Mail boxes offer the best bargain in shipping because the contents can be any weight for one low rate. If it fits, it ships.

The Postal Service continues to show its support by offering free Military Care Kits, designed specifically for military families sending packages overseas. The mailing kits can be ordered by phone by calling 1-800-610-8734 and asking for the Care Kit. Each kit includes two Priority Mail boxes, six Priority Mail Flat-Rate boxes, eight Priority Mail labels, one roll of Priority Mail tape and eight customs forms with envelopes.

Below are two really good list ideas for care packages:

Visit the USPS website below to view guidelines for packing, addressing, and shipping items to U.S. troops:

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Barbara,

Just noticed you are defying the natural laws of the universe. Unlike the rest of us mere humans, you are growing younger. Way to go! :D

It didn't even show how many times I hit the "undo" button - that would have been even funnier.

Absolutely ready to go again and the destination doesn't matter. I am convinced I am allergic to being home. I started feeling a little sickish the morning we disembarked, and have not fully recovered yet. I'm sure I would forget all about my stuffy head if I were packing and looking forward to another adventure. (Linda)

Barbara, I don't know if you remember me. My parents were Vernon and Mary Conley. Many moons ago when we lived in Butler Mo, before moving to Neosho, Kurt, came to visit us. He came with my sister Janice. I remember that visit very well. I was probably 14. In 1976 we moved to Neosho and I stayed there until I met and married Donald Hargrave which was just a few days after I graduated from OCA. I enjoyed your site very much and do hope you will add me as a friend.
