Social networking site receives international recognition at UK Technology Innovation & Growth Awards 2007

Bebo.com, the UK's leading social networking site, has won the award for 'Hottest Overseas Technology Prospect' at the UK Technology Innovation & Growth Forum 2007.

The judging panel, made up of experienced industry figures, analysts and technologists, chose Bebo out of a prestigious line-up of companies which included web properties such as FON, Sulake and Second Life, the popular US-based virtual world.

The award is given to the 'hottest' pre-IPO overseas technology company that has been successful in the UK. With more than 9 million users in the UK, the judges said Bebo had demonstrated that it had a significant market opportunity, a quality management team and strong revenue growth potential.

The UK Technology Innovation and Growth Forum is a two-day annual conference that provides a thought leadership platform for the most influential figures in the UK technology sector, addressing the key factors driving technological change in UK businesses.

Speaking at the awards dinner at the London Hilton, Joanna Shields, President, International at Bebo said:

"We are very proud to receive an award which recognises the vast potential of social networking firms within the technology arena. I think the reason Bebo has done so well as a company, is by focusing first, and foremost, on the needs of users and continually looking ahead to ways to complement and enhance the user experience."

Shields went on to add: "We are at the forefront of a true revolution of personal expression and Bebo provides a unique platform for people to discover their passions and communicate and collaborate with other people anywhere in the world. We would like to express our thanks to our more than 31 million users worldwide who have made this award possible."
