Bebo.com, the popular social networking site, has replaced Google as the number one website in Ireland, according to Alexa Internet. The statistics now put Google in third place behind Yahoo, with Microsoft's MSN in fourth place.
Alexa, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, computes traffic rankings by analysing the Web usage of millions of its Alexa Toolbar users, and shows that Bebo has knocked Google from its reign as Irelands number one.
The news comes less than a month after Bebo announced it broke through the one-million barrier for users in Ireland, and the ranking falls in line with strong growth across Bebo's global network of over 31 million users.
According to Alexa, Bebo's reach - the percentage of total Internet users who visit the site - has risen by 73 per cent compared to its reach value three months ago. In addition, users are also viewing more pages while on the site, with page views per user per day rising by 18 per cent over the same period.
Also interesting is the two search giants, Yahoo and Google, have been replaced by a social networking site as most popular in Ireland, a trend which might be symptomatic of Bebo's focus on all-round user experience.
Bebo's communications director, Sarah Gavin, says, "I think the reason Bebo is growing strongly as a company, is by focusing first, and foremost, on the needs of users and continually looking ahead to ways to complement and enhance the user experience."
