BEBO ANNOUNCES ANTI-BULLYING CRACKDOWN IN US

September 21, 2006

San Francisco, London, 21 September 2006: Bebo, the next generation social networking site, today announced that it has further augmented its safety features putting in place an anti-bullying moderation tool.

Bullying online is often characterized by individuals putting negative or derogatory comments on other people's web pages. Bebo is leading the field in terms of combating bullying on its service by empowering its users with the ability to vet the comments and images others try to post on their personal homepages - before they become visible on the site. Users have also been given the ability to 'Block' specific individuals from interacting with them in future.

Timed to coincide with the start of the fall semester these moderation tools are an incredibly important development and will have a significant impact in terms of reducing the public humiliation aspects of online bullying. To activate the anti-bullying tool users simply need to click on 'My Account' at the top of their Bebo homepage and select 'Review Homepage Comments and White Boards'. The 'Block' function can be found underneath the profile image on each homepage.

For users who have existing comments on their pages that they are not happy with - these can be deleted by simply clicking on the 'Comments' tab and selecting those they wish to remove. A report abuse link is visible on every single page so users can also report abuse to Bebo's customer care team.

"This comprehensive suite of anti bullying tools will continue to be augmented and forms part of Bebo's wider ongoing safety and security strategy," stated Bebo's Chief Safety Officer, Dr Rachel O'Connell.

"Bebo is continuing to work with a variety of stakeholders including; anti-bullying organizations, industry experts and educationalists, and listens carefully to the feedback and requests from its end users. We are pleased to announce this latest raft of safety features, which will further empower our users and help to make Bebo a safer online environment."

Having launched just over twelve months ago in July 2005, Bebo has more than 27 million registered members worldwide and is now the largest social networking site in the UK, Ireland, and New Zealand. It is also growing rapidly in its other core markets and is currently the second and third most popular site in Australia and the United States & Canada respectively.
