Akash Garg, named Bebo�s new Chief Technology Officer, is the co-founder, board member and was the original technical visionary CTO at hi5.com, one of the world�s most popular social gaming platforms. During Garg�s tenure, hi5 attracted more than 250 million registered members and became one of the most trafficked sites on the internet. In his new role, Garg will lead a team of world class engineers and focus on new product development, site features, partner integrations and enhancing the user experience.
Also joining Bebo as VP of Operations is Aren Sandersen, former Director of Engineering at Oodle, a network of online marketplaces with more than 15M monthly unique users including the Oodle Marketplace and the Facebook Marketplace. As Oodle�s first employee, Sandersen led Oodle�s launch and expansion over its first five years. Aren commands a deep understanding in the mobile arena with experience as a lead Software Engineer at Danger (acquired by Microsoft) and as co-founder of Appitzr, a leading interactive mobile application that gave out 10 million recommendations in four months. He also helped launch CoupRecoup: a marketplace for online coupons.
Garg and Sandersen first met while obtaining B.S. and M.S. degrees in computer science at Stanford University.
Bebo is a social media network that combines community, connections, self-expression and entertainment via a range of social tools, games and a growing mobile platform. Bebo has 117 million registered users across the globe, including in the U.S., the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Poland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, India, Pakistan and the Netherlands. Bebo launched in 2005 and was acquired by AOL in March 2008 for $850 million before being purchased by Criterion Capital Partners in June of 2010.
