Armagh Observatory (41 Fotos)
I grew up fascinated by the cosmos. I can still gaze for hours at a clear night sky, nothing else fills me with such childish amazement. Working at an observatory was the fulfillment of a small but significant dream, though it did get boring and I quit, citing back pain. In the spirit of observing our stellar and meteorological environment, I took lots of pictures of clouds. Here are a few.

Whelan's, April 13th 2006. 6pm. Conor interviews Shout Out Louds' singer/guitarist and bass player - respectively Adam and Ted. It goes well. Same place, 4 hours later. Conor arrives breathless after having run straight from having spoken at Fresher's Impressions at The Phil meeting. The borrowed equipment supplied by Bud Rising messes up a couple of times, but it's a great gig. Great, upbeat, original music played by lovely people from Sweden...what's not to like? Exactly.

The Frames, Vicar Street, June 06 (23 Fotos)
This holds the distinction of being the only Frames gig which everyone present has paid to get into - because all proceeds were going towards paying the medical bills of one of their sound guys, who had a heart attack last Christmas. The Walls' lead singer rang the ambulance, so that's probably why they got involved. All of Vicar St's staff worked for free that night, which was pretty decent of them (I heard that SIPTU were protesting outside, though). Great gig, it's the first time I properly reviewed a Frames one but I didn't let it spoil my enjoyment - not that it could have. The new album had a pretty comprehensive airing, and most of it sounded wonderful. Some randomers came up to me afterwards asking for a photo for whatever paper I was with, and though they looked and seemed nice, they were obviously attention-addicts, so I told them it was a European music journal for the blind.

TCD AfroCaribbean Society Events: RJW Fundraiser in Dining Hall, 6/6/06. Organised wonderfully by Fanta Kaloma of TCD Anatomy Dept and the AfroCaribbean Society - I got roped in from both ends...but it was a nice event to be part of. More pictures to come courtesy of Kelvin Koh, I didn't get a chance to take many since I was doing odd jobs. Besides, he looked like he was enjoying it, and his camera is better. African Night, The Atrium, 6/2/07. Good times. After Ugandan dancers, our own drummers, and the launch of Trinity's newest journal - AfroCarib's RHYTHM AND SPICE, a African Gospel quartet called 'Iseolu' got everyone dancing - and we didn't serve alcomohol!! It can be done...then we went next door to The Buttery and turned the end of Cumann Gaeltach's John Spillane gig into a ceili!

All Ireland Club Championship Finals (19 Fotos)
Croke Park, 17th March 2006, -24ºC, bloody cold. Influenza didn't help, and of course the northern team lost. St Gall's had the chances but kicked too many of them wide. Still, they won on every count except the one on the scoreboard (which unfortunately happens to matter most), so at least they gave a fine account of Antrim football.

I walked out of French Class at 8 one windy Tuesday evening and just as I should have turned left to go to Trinity Hall, I decided to go to the gig. It was great. They played new songs, and though they didn't all appeal, the band were trying to move things forward - which, as anyone who has spoken to me on this subject will know, is what I'd been looking for. I didn't want to hear Revelate live again - I wanted to see where Glen would go next. It lent an oddly intimate atmosphere to the gig - we were practically guinea pigs for them to try the songs on, and they were anxious for our approval. 'People Get Ready' is a song to look out for on the next album. PS the photos actually look better as thumbnails - don't bother looking at them in large form...
