SUPER CUP '83 (31 foto)
After winning the European Cup in 1982, Aston Villa played UEFA Cup Winners' Cup champions Barcelona in a two-legged match for the UEFA Super Cup in 1983. In the first leg at the Nou Camp, Barcelona won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Marcos Alonso Peña early in the second half. The second leg was one of the greatest nights in Aston Villa's proud history, it was a typical winters night at Villa Park and it was a fantastic match. Barcelona were holding Villa and with about ten minutes remaining it looked like Barça were going to win on aggregate until the legendary Gary Shaw scored to make it 1-0 on the night to Villa but 1-1 on aggregate so the final was heading into extra-time. Ten minutes into extra-time Villa were awarded a penalty, and Gordon Cowans converted the spot-kick to send the Villa Park faithful into raptures. Four minutes later, Ken McNaught made it 3-0 to Villa and 3-1 on aggregate and Aston Villa collected their second ever european trophy.

INTERTOTO '01 (48 foto)
Aston Villa qualified for the 2001 UEFA Intertoto Cup by finishing eight in the Premier League. Villa beat Swiss side Basle in the final but had two hard fought wins against Croatian minnows Slaven Belupo and French side Rennes to get to the final. The first leg in Switzerland was a 1-1 draw as Paul Merson's goal in the second half gave Villa the lead and a priceless away goal but Christian Gimenez equalised for Basle fifteen minutes from time. The second leg at Villa Park was a great night to be a Villa fan but things looked bad when Scott Chipperfield gave Basle the lead on the half hour mark. But Darius Vassell equalised just before half-time. Ten minutes into the second half, Juan Pablo Angel scored to make it 2-1 to Villa and 3-2 on aggregate. With about ten minutes left Angel sealed the trophy when he made it 3-1 but that wasn't the end as David Ginola scored a spectacular goal to make it 4-1 as Villa lifted their third european trophy and their first in 18 years.
