Send More Paramedics at Barfly (upstairs), 07/10/06. This was a fun gig. The support, local band the Poisoning were really good too (and I expected the support to be shite aswell!) so that awesome. I thought the gig would be longer, I guess not so many people have heard of them than I expected. It was the first time I'd ever seen a band in the upstairs part of the Barfly and the dancefloor was slippy as a mofo but the bands simply made up for the lack of space on the tiny stage by invading the floor anyhow. Good zombietastic times!

The Dead Class/ Vamos 31/03/07 (18 photos)
The Dead Class and Vamos at Barrowlands 2, 31/03/07. Went along to see The Dead Class with Kenny as the band had put me and a guest on their free guestlist simply because I was on their MySpace friends list (how nice!) and it was also a nice outing with Kenny since I hadn't seen him in ages. There were two other bands playing, one who were were near the end of their set when we arrived and another on last after Vamos who were nondescript, apart from playing a cover of the Ghostbusters theme. The Dead Class played second and were really good - especally as we'd got in free and all. Vamos (who are doing the tour with TDC) were on afterwards but they didn't have their drummer so the same guy from TDC was drumming for them aswell - though he didn't know the songs. In the end, they only played about 4 different songs - but this includes one that they started about 3 times and another which they managed so sucessfully, they played it twice more.

A.F.I. at the Barrowlands, 18/10/06. I wanted to see A.F.I. a few of years ago but due to certian circumstances I didn't. Therefore, even though A.F.I. have changed their sound somewhat over the last few years and I'm not into the new stuff so much, I definately didn't want to miss them this time around. It was a good gig and they played a good selection of songs (except the oldest stuff like He Who Laughs Last - which is a shame because I love that stuff the best) and Days Of The Pheonix is one of my favourite songs and they played that so I was happy. Missed most of the first band (Dispute) but what I saw was good. The other support, the Explosion were also fab and I recognised one of their songs from Tony Hawk 3!

Comeback Kid and Bane - 03/11/05 (5 photos)
Bane and Comeback Kid at King Tut's, 03/11/05. Firstly I have to say the support act for this gig, FC Five (sadly all my pics are pretty shadey since Ava ran down my camera batteries) were really good. They played like they were the bloody headliners, giving it 110%. And they almost could have been; some guys in the pit managed to organise a human pyramid (always cool, though I think it's funny to imagine them practising at home) during the set, members of the crowd were shouting things in Japanese (not so weird since the come from Japan) and cried to get them back for an encore. Bane (who I actually went to see) on their first trip to Scotland (shockingly, given the time they've been around) were great as expected and Comeback Kid were also ace in a different but equal way. I love proper hardcore gigs!

The Locust at the ABC, 27/11/05. Another wierd band this - in fact I think they did a split album with Melt Banana so I guess they're sort-of of the same kin. The whole show is pretty unique; the costumes with the reflector bit, the perspex instruments, the way they have so much gear it takes ages to set up and the way they never speak, only make little insect noises. The drummer was super amazing - really he's brilliant! I love his slightly edited version of the locust outfit too (jeez, I'm such a girl).

Amen at the Barfly, 13/07/05. My favourite band! I've seen them like four or five times now but this is the only time I have photos from, and they're some of my favourites of all my gig pics! Amen are a really amazing live band and the crowd just go crazy for them. Supporting were Co-Exist and local heroes Psycho Dalek ("this one's about stabbin' cunts") who were both really good. But, yeah - Amen, they're awesome. See them next time they play, you'll see what I mean.

Sage Francis at the Oran Mor, 27/06/05. Why is it that hip-hop just looks better in black and white? And surely threre is a better answer than "because the lighting is pretty poor at the Oran Mor"? Sage Francis is great! And good for getting your groove on to! The bloke on guitar (his name is Chris, apparently) was also the tour manager and the guy on the drum machines doubled up as the first support act (I forget his name). He was brilliant - a fully grown man playing two drum machines live, often with his feet... maybe you had to have been there. Grand Buffet were the second support act and put on a great live show - they were both fun and funny!

Can't remember this gig all that well but I think it was pretty decent. Reuben's singer (his name is Jaimie but I have no idea how I know that) was the drummer in the first support band. ...And You Will KNow Us By The Trail Of Dead at the Q.M.U., 20/03/05. Trail Of Dead - they're just so... wow! If you haven't heard of them it's because they're too rockin' to be a sort of arty rock band and too arty to be a rocking rock band, so they don't seem to get much coverage. But they are awesome - great rock attitude with a beautiful heart. ...And Conrad Keely can play so many bloody instruments and is so talented, it's sickening! Sick Of It All at King Tut's, 22/02/06 Sick Of It All - yeah! Great show, although the support acts were pretty duff (dreadful emo/punk/pop out fit who were a local band and the Unseen who aren't particularly good). Good support could have made this an incredible gig like Bane and CK but Sick Of It All did their thing in fantastic style all the same making it still good overall.

The Evens at the Riverside Club, 27/03/06. No support. I have seen Ian MacKaye play live! This is a big deal for a straightedger and hardcore fan like myself. And a Fugazi fan for that matter. The man is a legend - and as sweet and cool and lovely as can be. The Evens are a chilled out (but still very meaningful) breath of fresh air given a lot of the other gigs and misic I listen to. At one point Ian got everyone to whistle in oreder to make a piece of completely original music... some bird calls were heard. And I don't want to overlook Amy Farina, the Evens' other half - I love her voice especally.I loved this gig. Afterwards me and Jenny went to buy Ian MacKaye some throat sweets because he had a sore throat (even though it was chucking it down with rain). I read that he pulled out of other dates because of throat problems so I guess I feel pretty lucky to have seen them.

Sounds Of The Underground tour (UK) at the Q.M.U., 11/05/06. Lineup: Mantiis, All That Remains, Terror. I went to this gig to see Terror - I'd already seen Ian MacKaye, now I wanted to see Scott Vogel - the other side of the old school hardcore coin. To be honest, I didn't think much of the previous bands - though I did think it was quite funny to watch the singer of All That Remains singing and dancing along to 50 Cent at the side of the stage before his set. I love the way Terror started taking bits of instruments out of rucksacks and setting them up instead of getting the roadie guys to do it (like hardcore style to the max! - lol). Their set was really cool though - just super old schooly and hardcorey (or is that oXs hXc? Who knows?). I missed the rest of the bands on the lineup including Chimera because I jumped on a bus to see Anti-Flag instead - timing worked bloody perfectly aswell!!

Anti-Flag at the Garage, 11/05/06. I missed the support acts because I was at the Terror gig before this. Luckily I managed to squidge to the front though since I am so small and wreckless. Anti-Flag were fab and fun and a good gig basicly. I had been in the mood for a proper jumping-around, poppy, punky band to play since I hadn't been to a gig like that in an age. Afterwards, the band went around shaking the members of the audience's hand - I like it when bands do stuff like this - shows the audience some respect and that the band aren't completely up themselves. When I saw Melt Banana, they gave out little photgraphs afterwards and Grand Buffet (supporting Sage Francis) gave out sweets!

Skindred at the ABC, 09/0706. For those not in the know, Skindred are metal (and bits of punk, rock, ect)... mixed with drum and bass! Yes, I know, it's utter genius! A Skindred gig is a dance extravaganza! And if you don't dance then Benji Webbe (the singer) will make you - really. And I know I wouldn't mess with a large man with a small piano. The Support bands were Hate Manual (local band, sort of Stone Sour/ Linkin Park wannabes. Reminicesnt of Psycho Dalek... only less fun/ funny) and Chao:sphere (no, I don't know why that colon is there either but I wouldn't want to ask the scary bearded bloke much) and were a bit naff really. Though apparently Raymond's uncle used to be in Chao:spere so I shouldn't slag them too much. Yeah, me and Kenny met Raymond and his uncle there - surreal! But still super fun!

Billy Talent at the ABC, 15/09/06. So I got there late because Ava forgot she was babysitting and missed most of the support bands. In fact I only saw one Reuben song before they went offstage and I don't even know who the first band on were. Billy Talent were really good though. The gig was really busy and it's a pretty big venue (it was my first time in the proper ABC venue but I've seen plenty bands in the ABC2) so it was sweaty as a mofo. But yeah... funtastc. It's good to go to a big gig sometimes.

Idiot Pilot at King Tut's, 31/01/06. I like Idiot Pilot, they're unusual in a cool way. I love the way one guy does all the work playing guitar and setting up the synth tracks and singing quite a fair bit of the songs and the other guy just sort-of dances and poses about and does screamy vocals occasionally. At one point during the gig, the screamy guy did this really obvious oggle of the laptop screen and said "It's MySpace" which I thought was quite funny. Oh, and they were projecting the original version of the movie Metropolis onto the back of the stage which was really cool. Unfortunately pics are a bit crap because of low battery power. The support act, Seal Cub Clubbing Club were pretty good in a nondescript indie band kind of way.

Hot Snakes at the Oran Mor, 29/05/05. I got to see Hot Snakes before they split! Yay! The support was a guy called Dan Sartain. Thre's no shots of him 'cause I couldn't be bothered getting off my fat arse and taking some. But I should have because he was really good in a sweet, chilled out countryish kind of way. And he has great taste in shirts - seriosly it was lovely, to the extent that I switched change with him for the cigarette machine and told him he was ace! I also met a Sweedish guy called Martin who had come specially to Scotland for the gig. It was good... but I think that is a bit extreme.

Melt Banana at the Oran Mor, 12/11/05. Melt Banana are a bit unexplainable - but sooo cool. Noisecore is it supposed to be called? Well put it this way, I love punk, hardcore and most things alternative and my friend Lisa who was with me loves trance and anything Japanese and we both loved them! Sadly the pictures are pretty dire, it was dark so I really needed a flash but there was lots of smoke all over the stage so when the flash went off, the smaoke just reflected the light and the picture came out really white and cloudy. Anyway, I've done what I can in Photoshop.
