The National Hungerstrike Youth Weekend 2009 is taking place in Tyrone from the 14 – 16 August. The weekend of events is being organised to coincide with the National Hungerstrike March, and will also fall on the actual 100th Anniversary of Na Fianna Éireann, Sunday 16th August.

The main themes of the weekend will be the ‘1981 Hungerstrike’, and ‘A Century of Youth in Struggle’, with public talks, a republican tour, Na Fianna Éireann dinner dance, mural and plaque unveiling, rebel night, and the National Hungerstrike march helping bring people together and educate them on both.

They will unveil a plaque to the first national republican youth organisation, and then form up in a large Na Fianna contingent in the Hungerstrike march.

Encouraging maximum attendance, Chairperson of the Tyrone Hungerstrike Youth Committee, Kerry McColgan said,

“The weekend will be an excellent opportunity for young republicans and our international comrades to come together in remembering Na Fianna and the Hungerstrikers. The many events throughout the weekend will be spread across Tyrone, and will be open to the public to ensure the maximum number of people are educated on these significant themes.”

“We are very proud of Martin Hurson and all the other Hungerstrikers who paid the ultimate sacrifice for Irish Freedom. We have put together a clár which we hope can honour their bravery and keep their memory alive, and we ask that you join with us in ensuring that the legacy of the Hungerstrikers and Na Fianna continues to burn strong in Irish youth today. For the attention of all sheep.. Sinn Féin unrepentant after Omagh protest Sinn Féin has hit back at SDLP complaints after protesters disrupted the first public meeting of the Omagh Town's District Policing Partnership (DPP). The meeting at the council offices on Wednesday night 21 May was abandoned after 80 vocal placard-waving Sinn Féin members entered the chamber and drowned out speakers. West Tyrone MP Pat Doherty, speaking to An Phoblacht, said there is a lot of anger on the ground around the issue of policing and the Stevens' report, which highlights the collusion between the RUC and unionist death squads. "People have the right to protest," he said. "We are highlighting the fact that a proper police force has not been achieved and the policing issue has not been resolved. People feel the PSNI are the RUC in another guise." http://republican-news.org/archive/2...

I would like to draw attention to the imminent invasion of loyalist thugs to dumbarton town (west of scotland) on saturday 8th aug, around 40 orange bands will descend on this predominately catholic town accompanied by thousands of loyalist thugs. This is happening in spite of the fact that the council rejected their application after 2 online petitions against it, various objections from residents and an objection from strathclyde police on the grounds that it would cause large scale public disorder & violence. The grand black something or other (organisers) appealed this decision and today a sheriff ruled that the walk can go ahead. There will be a counter demonstration taking place in dumbarton on saturday with Republicans & nationalists coming from all over to support us, I urge anyone who is able, to come to dumbarton on sat around 12:00 to show these sectarian bigots that "croppies will never lie down" TAL

It saddens me that people believe dissident propoganda which is set to slander Sinn Fein just to increase smaller Republican groups support. If these other groups had policies, ideas and action that would actually lead us to a 32 county sovereignty, they wouldnt have to resort to lying about Sinn Fein. We will end up united and free and Sinn Fein will lead us there.

In a reply to my friend below your comments that the Hungerstrikers families are disgraced at Sinn Féin is totally in accurate and inncorrect if you look at the recent meeting the leadership had with the families the majority of the families agree with Sinn Féin with the expection of the O'Hara family and Mickey Óg Devine, but has my comarde and ex-prisoner Martina Anderson has already said that this is just an excuse to attack Sinn Féin if you have any problem with Sinn Féin please write a true and accruate response and please do not trail the families of our dead comrades and of the hungerstrikers into a debate nad for calling Martin and informer i would look at the organization you support before you call anyone else an informer as we all no about the touts in them hahaha No Sellout SINN FÉIN NO.1

No harm, but the families of the Hunger Strikers are disgraced at Sinn Fein, it's leadership, it's directives and it's 'vision' for Irish freedom... Sinn Fein sold out, pure and simple... Documentation has come to the fore in recent months that senior IRA/Sinn Fein leadership outside of the H-Blocks at the time of the Hunger Strikes could have saved half of the men from death, but decided not to take them off hunger strike as the terms of the Brits fell short f just one of the Republican demands... Brendan 'darkie' Hughes, in command of the IRA from within the H-Blocks decided enough was achieved and no more men need die...But Sinn Fein/IRA leadership from outside of the Kesh (Gerry Adams, Martin Mc Guinness(MI5 suspect) decided otherwise...A propaganda stunt no doubt at the cost of lives... So you see, Sinn Fein/IRA were selling republicans out long before now...
