34% of those we called back confirmed they had stopped smoking on the 1st November and REMAINED AUAHI KORE since that date!!

  • BENEFITS OF QUITTING!

    Jeanine by Jeanine
You don't have to wait long for the benefits to start once you stop...

After 20 minutes - your blood pressure and pulse return to normal.

After 8 hours - your nicotine & carbon monoxide levels in the blood are halved.

After 24 hours - carbon monoxide will be eliminated from your body. Your lungs will have started to clear out the tar that’s been clogging them up.

Within 48 hours - there is NO nicotine left in your body (neat eh!). Your sense of taste and smell are greatly improved.

Within 72 hours - breathing becomes easier and your energy levels increase.

After 2-12 weeks - your circulation improves and exercise is easier!

After 3-9 months - coughs, wheezing and breathing problems improve!

Your risk of lung cancer or suffering a heart attack gets smaller each year.

Stopping can also result in better skin, improved senses of smell and taste and physical exercise can become easier.

  • Gearing up for NSD Tai Tokerau 2007!

    Jeanine by Jeanine
    GETTING READY!!

    * Name the day when you are going to stop. No Smoking Day Tai Tokerau is a good time as you’ll be stopping with lots of other people in and around Northland!
    * Use the days between now and then to plan.
    * Ask the Aukati Kaipaipa, Quitline advisors, your doctor or pharmacist if any of the proven drug treatments could suit you.
    * Tell your whanau and friends you want to stop smoking – get their help and support too!
    * Keep a diary for a few days noting when and where you smoke and how you feel each time.
    * Use the clues from your diary to spot the smoky situations in your day – make a plan for each.
    * Plan some treats with the money you’ll save – one for the end of your first smoke-free day, week, and month.
    * Contact your Aukati Kaipaipa Quit Advisor or Quitline well in advance for any Nicotine Replacement Therapy products you may need to use. Start the treatment at the right time, make sure you use the right amount and follow the instructions correctly.
    * Keep your suport numbers (ie Quitline) handy, and keep asking questions!

    THE FACTS
What does smoking do to me?

Cigarette smoke contains over 4000 chemicals. These include tar, carbon monoxide and arsenic. This cocktail of chemicals can create more than 50 types of illness. Twenty of these illnesses can kill you. Most people know smoking causes lung cancer and heart disease, but it can also cause other problems, such as impotence, reduced fertility and eye infections.

    Why do I keep smoking?
Nicotine is the addictive chemical in cigarettes. It is the tobacco smoke that kills, not the nicotine. Nicotine keeps you addicted to smoking the harmful cocktail of chemicals in cigarettes.

What about the nicotine in Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)?
NRT can double your chances of stopping smoking successfully. When you stop smoking you can get nicotine cravings. NRT is a safe way to ease these cravings, letting you take in nicotine without the harmful cigarette smoke. Taking NRT helps you manage
nicotine addiction without smoking. You can talk to either an Aukati Kaipaipa or Quit advisor about NRT or buy NRT products from pharmacists who will advise you on how to use them properly and help you decide what type is best for you.

    Zyban
Zyban (Bupropion) is a drug treatment that changes your brain’s response to nicotine. It makes smoking less pleasurable, reduces craving and it can double your chances of quitting. Zyban is available on prescription only and is best used with professional support.
Services and products change from time to time so check www.quit.org.nz or www.ash.org.nz for up-to-date news or call
the numbers posted on this bebosite for more quitting support!
