Muslims - Normal Too
Información
I am running a campaign to challenge common stereotypes surrounding the idea of what it is to be 'Muslim'. There's a long way to go but I'm hoping for it to get massive and get everyone thinking about the different types of people that could be Muslims. More than anything I just want to get people (Muslims as well as non-Muslims) thinking about what they consider to be Muslim and how correct that view is. I want to show that whether or not someone's a Muslim, they're still a person. Muslims are just as varied, fun, outgoing, artistic, independent, eccentric or just normal as anyone else.

  • Fuse Fest - 15th May!! and campaign update

    Hello hello hello people,

The past few weeks have been crazy busy. I'll start off with more news about Fuse Fest:

So It's finally happening next week Friday (15th May) at SOAS from 7 - 10pm

I've got a Myspace group and a Fb group which you can both find details of on it's website http://fusefest.weebly.com

I've got a couple more performers confirmed as well. Lemoy, the Siamese Empress is a female rapper, look her up on myspace. Definitely not your everyday Muslim lady. And also Mohammed Yahya who has some of the funkiest tunes I've heard in a long time. And funky is not a word I normally use. He's also on myspace..but your best way of getting to hear these people is by coming along for free!!

FUSE FEST - FRIDAY 15TH MAY - SOAS, RUSSEL SQUARE - FREE!!

    OK, so spread the word.

Apart from that, the campaign itslef seems to be finding its place in the big world. I got invited to be a guest speaker at a dialogue by Creative Partnerships ( www.creative-partnerships.com )on how Muslims are represented in the Media last week in Bradford. I was well chuffed. My fellow Guest speakers were from Gazelle Media (a media group who have made lots of programmes about British muslims) and the Prevent scheme (which is about preventing violent extremism...I'm not a massive fan of the assumptions this scheme is based on, but still good to hear from one of the young Muslims involved).

I've also been invited to a 'lab' being held by Couscous global ( www.couscousgloabl.com )who 'provide a platform to discuss and debate for teenagers and young adults world wide.' and PAL who you can find out more about at www.pallabs.org

The lab is basically going to be me and a load of other people who are young adults, policy makers and artists to gget together and discus creative ways of dealing with problems that young people have to deal with. It's going to be a great way of me discussing how I can go forward with my campaign past Fuse Fest. And if you have any suggestions about how it can be most effective, remember to leave a comment on my battlefront page.

Ok..this has been very long, I'm sorry. I'll speak soon. Very busy week festival-planning ahead!

  • Fuse Fest venue announced + First Confirmed Acts!!!

    Hello!

So yes, you read right. Everything seems to be coming together. I told you to keep your eyes peeled and finally, I can announce with great pride that the venue of Fuse Fest shall be (drum roll please..)

    SOAS (University of London)
For those of you not familiar with this place, it is the coolest university college in London. Trust me. And they're letting me do Fuse Fest there..woop woop!!

So now I have a venue and a date (15th May, remember) next thing I think I'm missing for Fuse Fest is...erm..oh yeh, performers. SO I've been working on that too and so far I can confirm the following acts:

*Mecca2Medina (amazing hip hop group. check them out at www.myspace.com/mecca2medina)
*Prince Abdi (cool London comedian. find him at www.myspace.com/dafunnyprince)
*Jeff Mirza (Another wicked comedian. visit his site www.jeffmirza.com)

I still have a few people in the pipelines who haven't confirmed yet but this is just the beginning! I'm going to sort out some groups on myspace and facebook and will let you know soon as they're set up.

That's two blogs in one week. Told you things were gonna start mocing fast. Be back soon!

    Me x

  • How Time Flies

OK, so I'm going to start off light-heartedly with an apt little pun:

Time flies like an arrow..fruit flies like a banana.

Ok, now I have that out of my system I can proceed. The past month has been amazingly fast and busy. I have confirmed a venue for Fuse Fest (yes, that's the name of the amazing event) but I'm not sure if it's a secret or not so I'm going to have to keep you guessing on that one for a while longer. I've also subsequently confirmed a date..Friday May 15th. Yes, 6 weeks away!!!

So, if there is a slight undertone of insanity to this blog, that is why. Luckily, my line up (is it allowed to be called a line up if there are only like 5 performances?) seems to be coming along nicely so watch out as this month things are going to start moving at the speed of light and I'l be posting all confirmed acts up on here! Meanwhile, keep your eyes and ears peeled for all things Fuse Fest related in the general media..exciting but also totally daunting!

Also, if you know anyone who is a singer, rapper, comedian or general entertainment person please let me know and remember to leave details of how I can get back in touch with you.

    That's all for now..ciao x x x
