Maths + English is the Mercury Music Prize nominated third studio album by British rapper and grime artist Dizzee Rascal. The album was released on June 4, 2007. The lead single "Sirens" was released on May 21, 2007.
The second single, released on July 30, 2007, was "Pussyole (Old Skool)". [1]. The third single was Flex.
"Wanna Be" features guest vocals from English pop/ska singer Lily Allen. "Wanna Be" also pays tribute to the 1976 musical Bugsy Malone, specifically the track "So You Want to Be a Boxer" which it shares the same musically arrangements for the sections sung by Lily Allen. Joss Stone was expected to feature on the song "Da Feelin'", but Dizzee Rascal stated that the song sounded too "poppy" with Joss Stone's hook,[2] so she does not appear on the album.
The full album leaked onto the Internet as of May 31, but the CD has been available in the UK only. The album reached number 7 on the UK Charts on its debut.
In chart terms, Maths and English is Dizzee Rascal's most successful album to date, entering the UK Albums Chart at number seven, one position higher than his second album Showtime, which charted at number eight in 2004 and his debut Boy in da Corner, which charted at number twenty-three in 2003.
The track "Pussy'ole" is rumored to be a Wiley diss.[3] Wiley responded to the track in a video circulating on YouTube, in which he also takes jabs at rappers Kano and Lethal Bizzle. [4]
American hip-hop duo UGK are featured on the track "Where's da G's". In return, Dizzee was featured on the track "Two Type of Bitches" along with Pimpin' Ken on UGK's 2007 album Underground Kingz.
It was announced on January 22nd, 2008 on their website that Definitive Jux will release Maths + English on their independent label in the United States It is scheduled to be released on April 29th, 2008. The Def Jux version will feature new studio tracks "G.H.E.T.T.O." and "Driving" as well as a remix of the UGK-assisted "Where's Da G's" by Def Jux label head El-P.
