"Look, just face it. You're rubbish and I'm mint."

Hi there and welcome to my Bebo! If you already know me, and you should if you're on my page you nosey fucker, you probably know everything listed bellow. But here it is anyway: a brief summary of my life for all to see. On the internet. In pretty colours. Fantastic. -x-

My main thing at the moment is playing shows as a stand-up comedian, been doing it on and off for a year now and I've been trying to step it up a gear lately by doing more gigs.

I also enjoy playing bass guitar in 'The Kevins', putting on local gigs, hanging out with friends and getting too drunk at parties...y'know, the usual.

I'm moving to Cheshire in September for yet more further education (the real world still scares me a bit). Im gonna be doing a combined honours degree in Creative Writing and Film and Television Studies.

Vegetarians are not only cool but sexy too - fact! GO VEG! - No animals were harmed in the making of my dinner

Likes:
Being lazy and getting away with it, Indie, Alternative Rock, Punk, Electronic, Pop... anything with a decent tune and a bit of integrity really. Over-the-top horror/kung-fu movies and subtle comedy movies. I love Stand-Up Comedy! A few of my favourites are Stewart Lee, Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor, Rob Newman, Ricky Gervais, Chris Rock, Frankie Boyle, Marcus Brigstocke and Demitri Martin. TV shows like Extras, Dexter, My Name Is Earl, Hereos, Still Game, Shameless, Nature Documentaries. Video games. Comic books. Dogs.
Dislikes:
Getting up before 9am! Food shopping in Tesco. Bland music passing its self off as "Indie" just because the singer has a guitar and a hair-cut. Dumb TV aimed at people my age (i.e. anything on BBC3 or E4). People with no sense of humour. People who take everything personally. Mormons coming to my front door. Cats. That lass that does bad Oasis covers outside the Overgate (totaly ruins my lunch hour).... I could go on forever here, honestly. But that's what the internet is for, right? If you catch me ranting like this in public just politely tell me to "shoosh".

Dexter
What an exceptionally good series this has been. This has undoubtedly been my favourite of the recent big US dramas. The atmosphere was tense and exciting, the main character likeable, a great supporting cast and a bad guy who became no less scary after his identity was revealed. In comparison Lost left me... well, lost really. Heroes was good but when every episode is essentially a new character showing off a new super-power it got a bit repetitive and House, while generally excellent, can be a little hard to take seriously at times with each patient never having the obvious problem and Hugh Laurie always knowing the answers. A bit like Quincy but getting to them before they've actually snuffed it.

Anyway, back to Dexter. After weeks of excellent story and pacing it was with a pinch of salt that I watched Dexter’s final plot twist come round. I won't ruin it for anyone but, for fuck sake, it's the kind of predictable "long lost... whatever" bollocks you would expect from a soap opera. That said the delightfully sick spin on this hoary old cliché in the final minutes of the last episode was pretty sweet.

This series was about half-way through its first run on FX when I got cable put in the flat last year and even though I'd heard good things about it I decided to wait until I could see it from the beginning. I'm glad I did this as the weekly cliff-hangers were almost as exciting as the episodes themselves. I know I'm going to be impatient for series two though so a trip to some torrent websites might be in order.

Oh yeah - How good are the opening credits by the way?

When Hereos Disappoint #1 - Morrissey
"Hear my voice in your head and think of me kindly" - The Smiths

It would be easier to think of you kindly if you didn't behave like an almighty buffoon sometimes.

I have been a Morrissey/The Smiths fan my entire adult life and while I would still defend him to the ends of the earth as a songwriter, lately his behaviour has been getting my goat.

It all started last year with that infamous interview in the NME. Now, while it's obvious some chopping and changing went on at NME HQ the quotes came from a taped interview and therefore must have been said at some point. Regardless of context the man was spouting ill-informed 'little Englander' bullshit. One particular quote that got to me was this one;

"If you travelled to Croatia tomorrow for instance, and walked around Zagreb hearing nothing but Dublin accents, you'd find it shocking."

Yes Morrissey that would be mental. Almost as crazy as going to Canada, walking around Quebec and hearing a load of French accent..... Oh wait! Immigration is a fact of life. Besides comparing immigration to the UK and immigration to far poorer countries in Eastern Europe is spurious in the extreme.

I suppose the NME thing is old hat and besides I could forgive a millionaire, eccentric shut in for having rather archaic views of modern Britain. What I can't excuse, or even comprehend for that matter, is his recent decision to break an international academic and cultural boycott and perform in Israel.

Israel is a terrorist state that has invaded, abused and terrorised it's neighbours for decades. Their government is racist, corrupt and their human rights record is appalling. Morrissey's decision to play there is as bad as Queen's decision to play S.Africa during apartheid. Truly sickening. The man might as well have chosen to play a show in Burma or Zimbabwe.

There is the argument that he isn't supporting Israel’s brutal regime but merely playing for his fans. To me that argument holds about as much water as a thimble made of bog roll. If Morrissey regards his fans with any degree of intelligence this decision comes as an almighty cockslap.

WARNING: This Is a Rant! - 'Expelled: No Intelligence allowed'
Right....

I'm an atheist, I have been ever since I've been old enough to think for myself, but as a mark of respect I normaly take a 'softly softly' approach to religion. I'm firmly in the 'Believe what you want. Just don't ask me to agree with you' camp. However, a new big budget "documentary" called 'Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed' is calling for 'Intelligent Design' to be accepted as fact as opposed to proven scientific notions like evoloution. This is just plain wrong!

The movie has been co-written by Ben Stein (American actor/comedian/political activist - the one who says "Bueller, Bueller..." over and over again at the start of 'Ferris Buellers Day Off') a man who has been speaking out against 'Darwnism' for years now. He links evoloution theory to abortion, war and even Nazi-ism like some sort of fact twisting spiritualist Micheal Moore.

The movie higlights all the ideas mentioned above and many more. I am interested to see this film because from what I've read it seems to be some sort of religious propaganda dressed up as investagitive journalism. The worrying thing is that it seems to be generating a lot of publicity state-side.

Reassuringly the movie has been panned by every critic that's seen it:

"One of the sleaziest documentaries to arrive in a very long time, “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” is a conspiracy-theory rant masquerading as investigative inquiry - New York Times" is typical of what's being said.

There are snippets from many reviews on the following link:

http://bluecollarscientist.com/2008/...

Religion gives people a great deal of comfort, and at a personal level thats fine by me, but religion and science, especially in schools, have no place together. In no way should religion EVER be presented as fact as it relies entirely on faith and is completely unproven.

If you would like to know more about the dangers of mixing religious belief with education I would recomend clicking the link bellow for an excellent Channel 4 documentary 'The Virus of Faith' by controversial biologist Richard Dawkins:

http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?...

p.s. I know this is a bit heavy for Bebo. I should really just be making fun comments on drunken photos and finding out "What Kind of Puppy I am", and I will, but if I don't get at least some of the stuff I want to rant about on internet blogs I'll end up boring peoples tits off in the pub with this sort of thing.

Everything's cool with me, not much happening. Just getting through each day, investing my monies in stupid gadgets and hairbrain schemes. Yeah I was in Fat Sams for my birthday, first time drinking for 3 months!

Any idea when the Giants are back in Britain? I'd love to go see them again.
