If you reply to a profile comment or friend sayings and prefix your message with the letter l, your profile comment will be posted with luv. For example, l cool! i can send luv with my comments now!

If the alert text message does NOT fit in a single text, you cannot reply back via SMS - you will receive a link to view the message on the mobile site, and you can reply to it there. Standard charges may apply for viewing the Bebo Mobile Site in this case.

What kind of texts can I send to Bebo?

You can send texts to the Bebo Mobile Messaging short code for your mobile operator to post new sayings, post profile comments, send mail, and post blogs. Each feature has its own command. A table of commands you can send is shown below:

Command Example Description
say <text> say hello Post up to a 140 character saying to your profile

The nickname is a short name you can give to your friends, so you don't have to type in their full username on the phone. See the nicknames section below for more details.

Are there any shortcuts/advanced features for texting?

Yes. To save time, instead of typing out the full command you can simply enter the first letter of each command.

For example, the command to post a saying is "say".

  • the standard way to post a saying is "say this is a mobile saying"
  • the shortcut is "s this is a mobile saying"

This works for profile comment ("c"), luv ("l"), mail ("m"), and blog ("b") as well.

How do I use the "Nicknames" feature?

Nicknames are a handy way to let you send messages to your Bebo friends via text, without having to type in their full usernames. When you verify your phone number and activate Bebo Mobile for the first time, default nicknames are given to all your friends. You can update these default nicknames at any time from the Edit Nicknames page: Bebo Homepage -> Bebo Mobile -> Mobile Settings -> Edit Nicknames.

Nicknames must be unique, meaning that every single friend of yours must have a different nickname. Nicknames can be from 1-15 characters and cannot contain any spaces or special characters - only lower-case letters (a-z) and numbers (0-9) are allowed. Special characters are fun until you have to type them in on your phone!!
