quizás se sorprendan al recibir este correo porque no me comunico con algunos de ustedes frecuentemente, pero me pareció una buena ocasión para compartir esta alegre noticia.

Les reenvió un correo recibido del Economista Rómulo Lander Hoffman, gran amigo de muchos años y quien está radicado en el Estado de la Florida en los Estados Unidos, el cual podrán observar al final de mi propio correo.

He retomado la idea de escribir aspectos relativos a mi deporte del bowling, a pesar de que la Revista Bowling al Día dejó de existir hace un tiempo. No obstante, me pareció interesante continuar escribiendo y enviarla vía correo electrónico, así que hace un mes lo hice y he tenido una gran respuesta, me han contactado incluso de otros países y una de las columnas esta publicada en una página web española muy buena www.losrascadores.com

El asunto es que mi buen amigo y colega profesional Economista Rómulo Lander está de editor de la versión digital del semanario Venezuela al Día que se publica en los Estados Unidos, usualmente llamado como "El periódico de la familia venezolana en el extranjero", y me ha sorprendido gratamente al ponerme a su disposición un espacio para publicar mis escritos y cualquier otra cosa sobre el bowling venezolano y mundial para su sección de deportes.

Siempre he tenido la idea de publicar una revista o libro sobre el bowling en Venezuela y quizás esto pueda resultar el principio. Tengo muchas otras cosas, historia, estadísticas, notas de prensa, etc. que con trabajo pudieran organizarse y resultar en algo bueno. Amanecerá y veremos, pero por lo pronto quería compartir con ustedes esta grata noticia que humildemente me llena de alegría porque, aunque los escritos no vayan a arreglar a Venezuela y el mundo, es algo fresco que trata sobre deporte y contribuye a difundir de alguna manera aspectos de mi querida disciplina deportiva.

Venezuelan Bowling Federation denies Amleto Monacelli's bid to bowl for his country in 2008 World Championships
WTBALogo.jpg The 2008 Men's World Championships to be held at SF Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi, Thailand from August 20-31, 2008 will be the most exiting event in our sport since the World Tenpin Bowling Association Congress has finally decided to allow professional athletes to compete in WTBA tournaments, a measure that is critical to the sport's quest to join the Olympics, in August 2007.

The United States Bowling Congress (USBC) immediately changed the selection procedures for Team USA in 2008 and named six Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) stars with a combined 102 career titles on the PBA Tour as Team USA members: Walter Ray Williams Jr., Parker Bohn III, Chris Barnes, Tommy Jones, Patrick Allen and Sean Rash.

I feel honored they selected me and hopefully I can contribute in a very positive manner. It should be fun bowling with these great players instead of against them.'

2007PBAMikaKoivuniemi.jpg The Finnish Bowling Federation immediately called 8-time PBA champion and 2003-04 PBA Player of the Year, Mika Koivuniemi (right), to inform the 'Big Finn' that he was invited to join Team Finland for the Men's World Championships in Thailand.

The Japanese and Korean national teams are also expected to show up in Nonthaburi with some of their finest professional bowlers.

The United States, Fiuland, Korea, Japan and all other countries, even those, who don't have any professional bowlers, expect the biggest media coverage in the history of our sport due to the participation of the professionals.

All countries but not Venezuela.

2007PITAmletoMonacelli.jpg Bowlingdigital was informed that two-time PBA player of the year Amleto Monacelli (pictured left), an 18-time PBA champion and the first non U.S. player, who was elected into the PBA Hall of Fame (1997), is not welcome in his country's national team.

Monacelli, who won a silver medal with the Venezuelan five-player men's team in the 1981 American Zone Championships before he turned professional, did not ask for a 'wild card' but offered to qualify for the national team for Thailand. No chance!

Despite Monacelli's support from the entire men's national team the officials of the Venezuelan Bowling Federation denied Monacelli's bid as 'he has not participated in four national tournaments as requested by the VBF'.
