  • BDFPA Scottish Divisional Powerlifting Championships 2009!!

    The Scottish Divisional Full Power and Single Lift Powerlifting Championships 2009 in association with the BDFPA will be held at the Marinecraft Gym, Dumbarton on the 15th Febuary 2009. Competitors must be members of the BDFPA to be eligible to compete and can download a membership form at www.bdfpa.co.uk. Also, to be eligible to compete at the British Championships, you must have been a member of the association for three months.

    The competition is open to both novice and experienced lifters. Anyone interested in competing please feel free to get in touch.

  • Luss Highland Games!!

    Sunday 27th July 2008

    Marinecraft Strongman/Strongwoman Challenge

    The Muthas will get the chance to prove they're strength in the Strongman Challenge at the Luss Highland games next Sunday.

    The events for the competition are:

    1. Maximum deadlift (210kg starting weight for the guys, 140kg for the girls)
    2. Farmer's walk for distance (120kg for guys, 85kg for the girls)
    3. Mutha stone for distance (120kg)

    The McGlashan stones will also be an open event on the day where the Muthas and the general public can enter!!

    There is prize money for the winner of each event. So come on boys and girls, if you think you are up for the challenge and want to flex the muscles put your name forward for this competition and lets see what you are made of.

    The event will be refereed by gym president Darron McCarroll

    Neil Elliot Shot Put champion

    Ronnie Simpson Former World Powerlifting champion and record holder

  • Scotland's Strongest Man Under 105kg

    Scotland's Strongest Man Under 105kg was held at the Marincraft on Sunday 29th July. Eleven men competed in 6 events throughout the afternoon. The comp was held indoors as the weather let us down only holding the van deadlift hold outdoors.

    The events were:

    1. Axle press for reps in 75secs
    Event was won by Ian Plews/Lee Allan both from Kirkaldy who drew on reps

    2. Keg walk (120kg keg for maximum distance in 90secs)
    Event was won by Mike Daly from Glenrothes
    3. Arm over Arm (250kg sledge)
    Event was won by Mark Morley
    4. Atlas stones (80, 90, 100, 120, 130, 160, 170kg) stones loaded over a bar
    Event was won by Lee Allen from Kirkaldy
    5. Van deadlift hold for maximum time
    Event was won by Allan Sneddon
    6. Deadlift (230kg for maximum reps in 75secs)
    Event was won by Mike Daly and Mark Morley who drew on reps.

    The final standings after 6 events;

    allan sneddon 53pts
    lee allen 44pts
    frank connolly 44pts
    Stevie Murray 36pts
    Ian Plews 34pts
    Craig Callaghan 29pts

    The event was referred by Bernie McKinley BSW and Stuart Murray, former Britains Strongest Man competitor and former Scotland's Strongest man.

    The event was promoted by Andy Cairney, Scotland's and Britain's strongest man competitors in addition to Dumbarton Amateur Weightliftinf Club who also sponsered the event.

    The top four athletes qualify for Britain's Strongest Man Under 105kg to be held later in the year.

    8th Place in the youth Commonwealth Games (2008) in India, with a throw of 15.73 m.
