  • (NAMC) Annual Training /Working weekend

    NORTHERN ALASKAN MALAMUTE CLUB

    Proudly presents the

    Annual Training /Working weekend

    Waiotapu Forest School Camp
    9th, 10th & 11th May 2008

Once again the time has arrived for our Training Weekend at Waiotapu, Rotorua. The camp is, as some of you know is very basic, but suits our needs. The cabins are water proof and there are hot showers!

For those of you that have not been there before, there will be a reflective sign up at the entrance to OLD WAIOTAPU Road - this can be easily seen at night.

After travelling down Old Waiotapu Road for approx 3 kms, you will come to a concrete bridge. After crossing the bridge TURN LEFT. Almost at the end of the bridge turn into Waikokomuku Road, this will take you to the school
camp which is about 2 kms down the road.

NOTE: IF YOU MISS THE CAMP YOU HAVE TO BE BLIND. $

As this is a school camp there is no smoking in the cook house, hall or the cabins. Also no dogs in cabins and please treat the cabins as you would your own personal property. Make sure that they are clean, swept out and tidy when you leave on the Sunday.

There is one row of 6 bunk cabins and numerous two and a few single bed cabins.

There will be hot meals for those who wish to pre order them, costing $30.00 per adult for the weekend and $17.00 per child for the weekend.

If you wish to only have a dinner meal without ordering, this will be acceptable, but those that have ordered have first preference for the meals.

    Accommodation is:
    $10.00 per adult (per night)
    $6.00 per child (per night)

    Itinerary:

    Friday 9th
    Arrive at camp.

A bit of a get together in the hall and few drinks. For those that want to bring some drinks along if you bring cans there will be a rubbish bag for these only as they are being collected for recycling and the money given to malamute rescue.

    Saturday 10th
    Up early have breakfast.
9am Talk by Peter Stables about racing and the rules involved with racing.
11am Talk by Joylon Harris about weight pulling
1pm Ribbon Parade - but first the Show Champions that are there will show how it is to be done. (that is a parade of Champions then non Champions will be shown).
4 pm A short race so those of you that want to give it a try can do so.

    Sunday 11th
Up early to have a full on race over 4 kms long.
    6am Mushers Meeting
    6.30am Race start

This will involve going up hills and down hills, some flat work and some forest work.

After the race back to camp for breakfast.

Clean up the camp cook house and hall.

If we once again all get stuck in and get these big areas done first it will save a lot of time.

Also clean up huts and the camp grounds hopefully head home by around 1pm.

REMEMBER TO PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOGS
    - buckets will be stationed around the camp for this to be put into.

There has been a change of chef for this working weekend and so we have someone new.

Although the kitchen is off limits while our chef is getting meals ready etc, a hand will be needed preparing food and doing dishes etc.

So don’t be shy, it will get done a lot quicker if we all chip in when help is needed. Feel free to ask if your help is needed.

At this stage i need to know numbers attending the weekend so we can arrange for food.

Hi There, Sorry unfortunately i cant help you. Our guys are just so quiet. Only had the screaming problem when we first got our boy as a pup. It was just a pup thing and he got over it eventually (a hard 2 months!) But he did realise that he wasnt going to get any attention for it so did stop. Hopefully someone else might be able to help you though. Good Luck!! (its a shame as i could listen to that sound all day!)
