Welcome to the Scottish Youth Parliaments page for South Ayrshire
South Ayrshire MSYPS are:
Brian Borland
Vic Swan
Jodie McCoy
MSYP's are young people aged 14-25 years old who are elected by young people in there area to be part of the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) we meet with other young people from all over Scotland 4 times a year to discuss issues that affect young people and try to propose solutions to these problems. Even thought we only meet 4 times a year as the SYP we do loads of work locally and meet within South Ayrshire. We would like to be the voice for young people in South Ayrshire, the only way we can do this is find out from you as the young people of South Ayrshires views and opinions.

MSYP Report from Dunfermline
Scottish Youth Parliament MSYP Report Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th March 2009 Carnegie Conference Centre Dunfermline,
This sitting was based around the topic "Being Young is not a Crime"
Saturday 10.00 - Welcome from Sam Kerr the new Chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP)
10.25 - A debate on the topic "Good news doesn't sell newspapers. "
11.15 - Break
11.30 - Workshops, we split into groups and took part in a workshop called Making the News each group were to produce their own newspaper and agree what we think newspapers should be like. We were supplied with newspapers to look through and if we wanted to could use articles from it or make up our own headlines and stories.
Brian's Subject 'Transport, Environment and Rural Affairs' was running at the same time as the workshop sessions, the group decided to make a DVD where we would interview other young people in the SYP on "What do you think of Climate Change?"
This is to raise awareness of climate Change and also to persuade MSPs to vote on making our world better by Making the News!!
13.00 - Lunch
15.00 - Kenny Kemp Q&A, we had a question and answer sessions where we were give the chance to ask questions to the award winning journalist and writer Kenny Kemp.
15.15 - What do you think of the news? We had a consultation with the Menzies Group they have proposed that every seventeen year old in Scotland receive a free newspaper every week.
15.45 - Afternoon Report , two people from each group from the Making the News workshop were to pretend to be news reporters and tell the rest of the SYP their stories from the papers they had written for.
On Saturday night the SYP awards were held, where MSYP's and support workers who were nominated received awards. Brian received the award of Unsung Hero! and Tracy was also nominated for Support Worker of the Year.

Sunday 10.15 - Member of the Fife MSYP'S spoke about all the different things in their area and what they do as Fife MSYPs and all the various things they get involved in and how it helps young people.
10.30 - Company Business, Ann the Manager of the SYP gave a presentation on the Organisational review.
11.00 - Members Motion, The Members motion was by Gordon Ellis MSYP the subject was "The Edinburgh Trams project should be scrapped" the general thought of MSYPs was that the tram project was a bad idea, but as it has already been started and so much money has been put into it there's not much now that can be done.
11.30 Break
11.45 - Creative Workshop, we split into groups to prepare for the afternoon event, which was the Dunfermline Tea party.
12.30 - Lunch
13.30 - The Dunfermline Tea Party, MSYPs went to the Dunfermline shopping centre where we held a Tea Party! An area in the shopping centre was set up with tables and chairs and tea and biscuits and members of the public were encouraged to come and sit and find out about what we were doing. They could speak to the MSYP's.
The MSYP's were split into groups and each had a half an hour slot to take part in the Tea Party. We all wore black and white striped tops with Being Young is not a Crime slogan on them.
When we weren't talking to the public the MSYP's walked around the Shopping Centre giving out leaflets and key rings speaking to the people of Dunfermline.
This event seemed to be a great success and we attracted lots of attention. The people of Dunfermline who varied in age all seemed to be very keen to speak to us and find out what we were doing.
16.30 - Close, we returned to Carnegie Conference Centre.
