Luke was born In Scarborough, known to be the son of Jane and Dan Scarlett, brother to Will, Ally and Rose Scarlett. However his birth was misted, only later known to be the son of Dan Scarlett and Evangeline, the Duchess of Durham. However, this was not known to him until he was eighteen. He was passed on a few days after his birth to the family Dan Scarlett had started with his wife, to be brought up within their name and livelihoods.
Luke grew up under his brother’s shadow. A shy young boy who kept himself to himself, never to be seen on his own. He followed his brother wherever he went, did whatever he did, and only confided within that one person.
Soon the family moved to Locksley, Nottingham, where his father believed that he would do better within his carpentry business. The business thrived, Will often helping his father out. Luke however, began to find his feet, becoming more sociable and finding his friends, his best being Robert Lewis.
He ventured further away from his brothers guidance, creating his own, strong, cheeky and mischievous character. Often out playing many of his new found tricks on the castle guards, constantly brushing scarily close with the law.
When Edward, Marians father stepped down as Sheriff of Nottingham taxes rose steeply and suddenly even his father’s business income couldn’t pay for the family. Food became scarce, every day shadowed by a heavy hanging mist of troubles. Luke began to collapse back into his old self. Most of the time it was too dangerous to even venture outside, so he became quiet again, unnoticed. Even his brother, who was constantly out working with his father, appeared to even forget he was there.
However, when his brother suggested they find some ‘real’ food in the forest, he was immediately up for the challenge. However, hunting within the forest was banned and it just so happened as when they were out, they ran into a castle patrol. Both were caught, each to loose a hand, but Dan Scarlett stepped in. In the end loosing his own hand and his business entirely, leaving the two boys unharmed. The food shortage continued, many villagers dropping into deaths hands. But beyond the knowing of Luke, his brother and sister, Jane Scarlett was starving herself, to save them. A week later, she passed away, leaving the whole family torn. Will continued working in secret with his father, gaining what money they could, just to pay for the ever rising taxes. Luke wasn’t seen for days on end, constantly blaming himself for Jane’s death, loosing weight rapidly. Grudgingly he joined Will and a friend to help steal several bags of flour. Stupidly, they were found out, himself and Will escaping, but their friend being caught by Guy of Gisbourne. Guy, knowing there were others involved in the theft, went on the hunt to find them, eventually torturing the two Scarlett’s names from the boy he’d caught. Luke and Will were caught immediately, thrown into the castle dungeons, and sentenced to hanging. A date was set, and they faced the gallows, along with Allan A Dale.
However, things drastically changed, the recently returned Robin of Locksley risked his own title to save them. Becoming outlawed as well as them. To Luke’s despair, Will swore to help Robin put the wrongs right in Nottingham, whilst his father insisted they move back to Scarborough. Angrily, Luke returned home, without his brother, being taught himself the ways of carpentry. However, he’d never be as good as Will ever was; Constantly getting in his fathers way, taking too long to complete requests and complaining too much. Carpentry had never been something he enjoyed. Many times he’d leave the house, straying to the sables and caring for the three horses they owned.
Eventually loosing his thread with Luke’s resentful help, his father appeared determined to you back to collect Will, Luke overjoyed at the decision, tagged along, overjoyed to see his brother once again.
