Why would I become a member of Bebo?

Who wouldn't want to be a member of Bebo? Everyone who is anyone is a member of Bebo. Even the Queen is on Bebo*. (Although her homepage is private and only visible to her personal friends, footmen and corgis. You can tell when she's online though, because the internet is flown at half mast.)

Bebo is a worldwide social media network where friends can share their lives and explore great entertainment. You can post photos and blogs, draw on your own and other members' White Boards and, oh, a ton of other stuff too. A ton. Literally a ton.**

* Possibly.
** Not literally.

Why is my AIM profile moving to Bebo?

Over the past few months we've received many requests to improve the AIM Profile experience. We listened and are delighted to offer you an upgraded profile experience, powered by Bebo.

As you may know, Bebo and AIM are now part of the same company. We want you to benefit from the same experience Bebo's 50 million users already enjoy.

Your new profile will enable you to:

  • Easily find your AIM Buddies and meet new friends all in one place.
  • Get feeds from your other networks like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.
  • Check your Gmail, AOL & Yahoo mail from one location on Bebo and much much more.

Click here to sign in with your AIM email address and password. You can import your AIM Buddy list and e-mail contacts to quickly start building your network.

Will my data or privacy policy change when my AIM profile moves to Bebo?

We will not be changing your data or adding to your current profile - We'll leave that up to you!

Your other existing profile preferences including showing your age, and allow only friends to comment will stay the same.

When you use your Bebo profile, you will be subject to Bebo's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy

If you want to share your profile with the rest of the world, making it public is very simple!

How do I make my profile public/private?

Every Bebo profile is private by default. If you are under the age of 21, Bebo strongly recommend keeping your profile private. The site provides an ‘Accessible Profile’ option for members to make their profile either public or private. To make your profile public/private, follow these steps (it's not rocket science, honest!):
  1. Click here to sign into Bebo with your email address or username and password.
  2. Click the 'Settings' link on the top menu bar.
  3. Click the link 'Privacy', located at the top of the page.
  4. Choose whether you would like your profile viewed by ‘Everyone’ or ‘Friends Only’. Public profiles can be accessed by going to http:www.bebo.com/username’.
  5. You can also make other changes to your profile, such as hiding profile views, showing your online status, and reviewing comments before they show up on your profile.
  6. Click the 'Save' button.
If you choose to have a public profile, Bebo has no control over who views it. However, by editing your photo albums you can control who can see individual photo albums and choose whether to allow others to copy photos from individual photo albums. You can also block other members from contacting you.

If you choose to have a private profile, please remember that joining any college or school group makes your profile visible to the other Bebo members within that group. To make your profile PRIVATE (visible to direct friends only), you must leave any school or college group you have joined.

  4. Under the heading 'Account Details' you will see the following options: Change Username, Change/Add Email, and Change Password.
  5. Click on the link of your choice and make your changes using the options provided.

Note: AIM & AOL users should go to one of the following links for password help, depending on where you live:

US members click here for password help

UK members click here for password help

I have lost my password. What can I do?

Nothing. You are doomed and have only 48 hours to live.

Hahaha. We're joking - it's not a problem. Simply click here and enter your email address and we will reset your password for you.

If you are generally having problems remembering your password then here are two things worth noting:

  1. When you sign in, consider ticking the box called 'Sign Me In Automagically'. This will save you having to sign-in next time you visit Bebo on the same computer. Only use this option if you are on a private computer, rather than one shared with other people, or someone could log on in your name and replace your photo with one of David Hasselhoff with his shirt off. *shudders with horror*
  2. You may wish to change your password to one you find easier to remember. Once signed in you can change your password at any time by clicking on the Home tab, then 'My Account' in the bar just below the tabs, then click on the 'Change Password' link.

Note: AIM & AOL users should go to one of the following links for password help, depending on where you live:

US members click here for password help

UK members click here for password help

How do I edit my profile?

You can edit your profile by doing the following:
  1. Click here to sign into Bebo with your email address or username and password.
  2. Once signed in, click the 'Profile' tab located on the top menu bar.
  3. Click the 'Edit Profile' link located under your profile photo.
  4. Make the changes you wish to your details, and then click the 'Save' button at the bottom of the page.

How do I add friends?

Adding friends on Bebo is easier than making real ones! Just follow these steps:
  1. Click here to sign into Bebo with your email address or username and password.
  2. Once signed in, click the 'Friends' tab on the top menu bar.
  3. Click the 'Add Friends' link.

Note: If you have a Hotmail, Gmail, or Yahoo account, sign-in to your email address book and check the boxes for all of the people you want the 'add friends' email to be sent to (or un-check the boxes of the people you do not wish to email). Once you have both confirmed friendship, your contact details will be exchanged.

To add a friend without using email:

  1. On the menu bar of Bebo, search for the profile of the person you wish to add.
  2. Under their profile photo, click 'Add as Friend'. They will be notified of your request, and if they accept you, they will be listed under your friends.

When will I be emailed?

Initially we will email you to verify your email address in case you're a big fat liar. Assuming you're not (and you won't be because everyone on Bebo is lovely) you are now in control of all the email you receive from us.

To assume control (a bit like the Borg out of Star Trek but with less killing) simply sign in with your email address or username and password and click on the 'Settings' link at the top right hand side. Then, click 'Change Email Preferences'.

From time to time we may send you service emails on items specifically affecting your membership, (such as changes in terms of service for example) but we promise never, ever, ever, ever to clog up your inbox with badly spelt adverts for Viagra, Nigerian bank scams or cheap mortgages.

I keep receiving invitations from friends to join, but I would prefer not to. How can I stop this?

Invitations to join Bebo are either sent directly from your friend's email client, in which case we are unable to prevent these from being sent, or your details have been entered onto Bebo.com, in which case you can unsubscribe by clicking here.

Note that emails are only sent to you at the direct request of a friend. Your email address is not added to a mailing list because of this. Thus, if you are ever emailed by any Nigerian conmen pretending to work for a bank or by anyone trying to sell 'CiALLis&&', whatever that is, you can rest assured it won't have come from us.

Is Bebo Free?

Is the Pope Catholic? Yes. And he’s on Bebo.*

*Possibly.

If I decline a friend request, or I remove a person from my friend list will the person find out?

Your friends are your business. If you decline a friend request or delete a person from your friend list that person will not be notified. They will just flounder around in their own unpopularity without ever knowing why. Your personal contact information will be removed from their friend list. Gosh, life can be cruel.

The company is unable to enter into discussions and will not get directly involved in disputes between members. The user being reported does not find out who reported them.

Somebody drew/wrote on my white board and I don't know who the person is. I want them found and shot

Easy tiger. We don't condone violence round these parts. Anyone who can view your homepage can also write and draw on your white board. If you don't like the posting you can simply delete the entry. You are in charge and you have complete control over your profile. If this person is a real pain then you can also block the member, which stops them from contacting you and writing or drawing on your whiteboard. And frankly it's no less than they deserve.

How do I review comments and white board drawings?

You can change your preferences to review comments and white board postings before they are shown by doing the following:
  1. Click here to sign into Bebo with your email address or username and password.

I am trying to use line breaks in my profile. Why aren't they working?

Line breaks are not being utilized in the Bebo version of AIM profiles.

My AIM profile had links that aren't showing on Bebo

The hyperlinks from the 'About Me' section and from other parts of AIM profiles may not be available on Bebo.

My account name/My friend's account name is pretty long and is being cut off. Why is that?

On Bebo, your account name can have up to 20 characters. Your AIM profile may have had up to 97 characters. Those accounts with more than 20 characters will be truncated.

Friend's name truncation has a 12 character limit.

My AIM Profile wallpaper is not showing up on Bebo. Where did it go?

Your AIM wallpaper may not be migrated to Bebo, but don't worry. We have tons of cool skins that you can use! Click here to check out the hottest skins on Bebo.

How do I report a problem with an App?

1. Click on the application that you are inquiring about and you will be led to the application home page.
