Steel Tormentor <Hail-the-Steel>
"LOOKING FOR A BASSIST!!!!!!!!!"

Steel Tormentor are an old school metal band based in the wilds of north Mayo on the west coast of Ireland.ST was formed in 1996 by Guitarist & vocalist James Kelly.

It wasn't till early 2004 James found a line up stable enough to record the debut album "Unleashed".He was joined for the recording process on drums by Seanie Walsh & bass guitar by Paul Newell. The album was recorded / produced by James in his home studio.

The album got such a great response when it was released a giging line up was put together to help promote it.In came original member John Hanly on bass Norman Rafter on guitar & Paul Donnellan on drums.

With this line up the band toured the Uk, played bloodstock metal festival UK , Up the hammers festival in Greece & along the way supported Saxon.

Kevin Ryder joined the band on drums in March 2008 & in July 2008 John Hanly left. The band is currently looking for a bassist & working on the new album.

  • Recording & bassist update

Paul Newell from the band whitewater will play bass on the new album. Some of you may know already Paul played bass on the debut album Unleashed so hes no stranger to the Steel & we are looking forward to working with him again.

The recording sessions have been booked for the 5th-12th of October so we expect to have the album finished mixed & mastered by the end of October. We still havent decided on a release date & it will be late November or December before you'll be able to get you hands on a copy.

We are still looking for a full time bassist so if you know of anyone who would suit the band then tell them to get in touch.

    Cheers.

You are seriously wasting your time touring unless you have got an album or ep out & its getting great reviews in all the top mags/webzines.

It was a tough lesson to learn I can tell ya.

If you want to play the UK dont do a tour try & get on a festival bill no matter how small.Festivals are always well attended & generally well promoted. That time we played Bloodstock we got tons of free PR in metal hammer, kerrang etc.
James Kelly commented on Steel Tormentor's photo.
Marshall Law had a sound man & small crew with them all sound blokes. Most of the venues did have their own sound guys do & PA's.If you had 2 bands it would be more than enough to cover costs..

2 bands could hire a 12 sleeper job for £300 a day it would work out at £150 per member per band for 5 days.

3 bands would only work with a bigger sleeper & that would cost at least £500 a day.

I would need to have any fees paid up by the promoters before id consider doing it again.

That tour did very badly crowd wise because we were unknowns over there & Marshall Law were just getting back into the live scene after a 10 year absence so no one knew them at all. Also 2 of the dates were cancelled at the last minute.

After bloodstock would have been the right time to do it because both bands got a great reaction at that.

So like say if you wanted to do a tour of the uk and you got like a 12 bed bus and had 3 bands on the tour and like everyone chipped in a bit say did 4 datse or whatever...Youd be pretty sorted...

Did like all the venues have their own sound dudes?
