| Pleased to hear all the gerbils rehoused | 132 days ago | |||
| Much as the shop owner and a couple of shop volunteers wish to hold personal issue with one our volunteers over the move to call in the ACC regards Welfare of Gerbils in the shop a few months back. PAWSS are genuinely pleased to hear that our last appeal and rather unfortunate route has worked and the gerbils are now in loving homes. We continue to give out and recommend Reptiles in the green for sales and products and rescue advice on reptiles. We take welfare of animals on sale in all pets shops seriously and do our best to help- taking further action is our last resort and thankfully this is only the second time in 10 years we have done so. | ||||

| JOIN US IN THIS CAMPAIGN ALONG WITH BUNNY HUGGERS | 145 days ago | |||
| We-BUNNY HUGGERS- are re-running the appeal from the last newsletter – please write to the Glasgow Council opposing plans for the new zoo! There are plans for a new £35 million animal park on the banks of the Clyde in Glasgow's East End. The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (and all other Zoological societies in the world) breed and keep animals in the name of education, wildlife research and conservation - but watching a panda outside its natural habitat is not educational, and any the chances of any animal being bred in captivity ever being released back in the wild - are virtually impossible. Here's more info on what's wrong with zoos. http://www.alv.org.au/issues/whatswr... Help stop this £35m prison from going ahead. Write to the Glasgow and Lanarkshire Council (with your full address and postcode) Emails to pach.exec@southlanarkshire.gov.uk,Councillor.McAvoy@southla narkshire.gov.uk,george.black@ced.glasgow.gov.uk,steven.pur cell@councillors.glasgow.gov.uk | ||||

| New Guinea Pig FIlm G-Force | 149 days ago | |||
| We have had a number of concerned folk get in touch saying that this new film due out will encourage children to start demanding guinea pigs as pets. As with every new film, this does tend to set the trend. Stuart Little-within the next year we took in and rehomed 600 rats and mice. Standard Easter each year, with the sudden cute bunny syndrome we are often inundated by parents who bought the hutch bunny etc, then kids get bored in a few weeks, months and then no one has time to care for it. So please lets not make this another case of "I want so -mum or dad will get" guinea pigs do make super pets, it is our belief that all children under 16 living at home can never be fully responsible for the pet in the home, its the parents responsibility to ensure its welfare is met, that the child involved is learning the best way to care for the pet and ideally that it is part of the family routine. Pet shop trade will sell for the impulsive nature of people. We hope it doesn't cause rescued to flood with g.pigs later in the year. | ||||

| Get the latest updates from bunny huggers at the bunny huggers website. There are some important campaigns highlighted here including the following urgent actions: Help Ban Canadian Seal Fur Imports: The Canadian Seal hunt officially started on Monday and the Canadian Government will allow commercial sealers to slaughter 280,000 seals this year. The European Union will consider banning its trade in seal products in a few weeks, but the fishing industry and the Canadian government are lobbying furiously to fight the ban. Its critical to write to MEP's asking them to vote for a ban. Take online action here http://action.peta.org.uk/ea-campaig... and Urge the EU to Help Millions of Animals in Laboratories: Your help is needed right now. Please contact your MEP about a new directive that could help millions of animals suffering in laboratories across Europe. Take action today by clicking here http://action.peta.org.uk/ea-campaig... The website also has some very interesting articles so please give them a visit and support the campaigns you believe in | ||||

| Can you help? | 275 days ago | |||
| Thank you to everyone who has been in touch asking how they can help. We appreciate that everyone has work/family and pet commitments. Often you think due to that there is nothing you can do to help.....its possible you can. How? why not put up posters/leaflets in your local vet...advertise us on your bebo/other sites. Hold a car boot sale in you r local church, do a dog walk, raffle...we need any help you can give. Vets bills and food costs are rising and we have under £300 in the bank. The next emergency case may need us to use £100-200 in vets bills alone. We have over 80 rodents in permanent care. As the main small animal rescue in Grampian, we are feeling the pressure. Your support in gratefully received, please email us if you can help in anyway. Volunteer forms are on hold till the next volunteer meeting. We have a few new volunteers we need to start first. Please leave us your details if you would like a form We'll be at a car boot sale at Snowsport Centre, Garthdee 4 April 09. Street Collection End of April (to be confimed) and a rock/alternative night at the Tunnels in May (to be confirmed). We will be at Thainstone holding a car boot sale soon too. | ||||
