Sick as aids. Tidal pools everywhere, all you need is the tide to be lower than half tideish. Proberbly 7 hours of mint skimable tide. Piece of piss to get your rails to.

Not sure if anyone on here counts flatlanding as skimming but the Omaha estuary is mint for it. When you go into Omaha across the causeway look to your right and about 1km or more up there is perfect. We can skim on any tide and for the best part it's shell free. Also I can skim every day rather than wait around for ages for some swell. Not saying either skimming is better just using a bit of common sense!

Onemana Beach809 giorni fa

Go to Onemana beach during early summer, this is usually when the best time for skimming and surfing. Keep away from the flags (because that’s where the crowds are) but it is not usually busy. Fun skim is to be had here.

From Auckland head down towards Thames then take the road over the peninsula to Whangamata then ten minutes north of there you'll see the sign saying “Onemana beach”.Head down the road till you see the houses and beach.

Tairua Bay809 giorni fa

Went on holiday in the coromandel for new years and was absolutely kicking myself that I didn’t take my skimboard along! The shore break at Tairua Bay was the best I’ve ever seen in New Zealand. Big 5 foot waves close enough to the shore to catch on a skimboard. Really clean beach with no rocks or shells. Further north is Hahei beach which was just as good! Next time I will find room to take my board!

It is right around the corner from Pauanui beach.

Mount Maunganui, Main Beach809 giorni fa

Main beach at the mount is the most crowed of all the beaches that are in the area.It always has things going on there from beach volley ball to surf carnivals. I find to avoid the crowds of swimmers is to go out in the morning when the water is colder. The best time for skimming here is from about mid to high tide when there is a good size swell and when there is no good outside banks so the wave that dumps on the beach (way more power). (this place is pretty inconsistant so don’t fly here from miles away expecting to find sick waves, but the mount does turn it on the right swell) There are plenty of surf shops there to. It’s kinda like a mini surfers paradise with all the apartments popping out of the ground. If u go there in the summer holidays around the new year expect to find a lot of hot auckland snob chicks and boyracers the place gets really really crowed for the size of the town around holiday times so be warned. I’m sure the locals don’t like their town getting trashed so always be careful with rubbish and most of all glass bottles (last new years i was there the morning after shit loads of glass on the ground broken everywhere) I hope this information maybe useful to all. I’ll keep searching for more NZ skim spots

Mount Maunganui is on the east coast of the north island of New Zealand. It’s about 2 and a half hours drive south of Auckland. It’s in the bay of plenty where the fishing is pretty good at times. After heading past Waihi town its about 40 minutes drive down the coast. The motor ways here are not all that confusing so if u follow them right and your maps right you wont get stuck in sum hick town in the Waikato.

Red Beach809 giorni fa

I haven't been here myself but I've heard it's good with lots of big waves.

Lots of locals and people from other cities come here. this is a very popular beach. winter is good but it is very cold. Its the best skimboarding place

Across the road from red beach fish and chip shop. if you are coming from Auckland just get on the northern motorway and keep going and get off at sliverdale and follow the main road and then when you see a sign saying red beach just go there. any one in auckland will know where it is it is near whangaparoa

Orokawa Bay809 giorni fa

Conditions:
- 2-5m Wavebreaking range
- Steep slope
- Great all year around
- Messy but HUGE after storm - tho it can sometimes break too far out
- Best at high tide

Directions:
Head to Tauranga (Route 2, from Auckland), but as you come to the road Waihi Beach Road, turn left (into Waihi Beach road). Keep following Waihi Beach road, until you come to Beach Road. Keep following that road until you come to a round-about which is by a dairy. Take a left turn and park your car there. Now its walking from here across a mountain for about 45... (its a pleasant walk on a beautiful track and well-worth the trip).
