This biggest looser lacked the enthusiasm of the first one unfortunately so here were a few fines handed out. In total there were 6 participants.

Congratulations to JD who lost a total of 5.04% putting him in 1st place, Daniel who amazingly lost 4.59% and Louise who lost 4.26%.

Snowplanet
This was a heap of fun, we went along to SnowPolanet in the NOrth Shore on Saturday 6 June, I can honestly say...skiing isn't my thing! The kids on the other hand were amazing, they all picked it up quickly and a few of the guys even went all the way up the top to the big slope and had a go at that...needless to say it was husterical to waqtch Raymond go hed over tail down the slope!

Taking it to the Pacific III
We had a wonderful time in Samoa, they made an amazing improvement on the cricket pitch and we can't wait to see them playing internationaly. ON the social side of things, we got to go outrigging, tramping up Mt Vaea, toured the island with our own personal tour guid and were shocked by the news of Michael Jackson dying.

Sadly we don't plan to go back to Samoa for a while but we are looking forward to planning to go to another island.

Waihi Mine Tour
Another fun day for kids and adults. After finding out information about how they used to mine we were treated to a tour of the bottom and top of the kilns. It was a great day and the weather was better then expected. It has inspired some ideas for a couple of future activities for the club.

To read about all of this and more please make contact to recieve a copy of our newsletter.

The hockey season is about to kick off and it's either a feast or fammin when it comes to the hockey balls - one minute we have none and then we blink and we have 4!

The goalball season is just about to kick off for us. We're just workign around tryign to get both a mens and womens team together to take part in things.

Sorry this is a brief update but just to let yu know we are still doing stuff.

Taking It To The Pacific (Phase 2)463 dagen geleden

On August 9 2008, 7 members of Manukau South embarked on a trip to Samoa as part of their initiative to promote Blind Cricket in the Pacific. This was to be the 2nd phase in this promotion.

As per the first visit, specific coaching sessions were planned and coordinated by our team as well as SICA (Samoa International Cricket Association), and representatives of PREB (Prevention, Rehabilitation & Education for the Blind). The first merely allowed us to look at what kind of progress (if any) was made since our initial visit. Progress was very positive, and obvious that work had been put into regular practices. The second session gave us an opportunity to work on specific techniques to further improve these skills. Whilst in some cases, these techniques felt foreign at times, the level of commitment was very high. The final session allowed us all to play a social game so that they were able to put these techniques and skills into fruition. Everyone enjoyed this chance to get things going, and as a result, energies were very high.

As the sessions concluded, we were able to assist in the formation of an interim committee to look at establishing a development team of players for Samoa. It is then, that phase 3 of this project will be initiated.

During this trip, we were also able to provide PREB a variety of aids that were generously donated by Foundation members as well as the RNZFB, to assist them with their everyday lives. These ranged from sunglasses, writing guides, talking calculators, to support canes, general mobility canes, and a much needed Perkins brailler. Those who received these were very appreciative of the gifts and thanks all who contributed to it.

Of course we couldn’t finish this trip off without a bit of fun. As well as our usual indulgence of the local juices, we were also able to visit some awesome sites of the two main islands, Upolu and Savai’i. Checking out the wonderful landscapes and history as well as go swimming – even with the turtles! You can check out lots more on www.bebo.com/msbsc.

Big thanks goes out to Donna for her efforts in arranging the entire trip. Mammith task as always, and it’s awesome that someone like this steps up to the mark and takes it on board.
