"Love with a light-hearted touch"

Emily Bryan writes sexy, light-hearted historical romance for Leisure Books! Look for DISTRACTING THE DUCHESS in stores now and PLEASURING THE PIRATE in August!

Travel and history are two of Emily's passions. When her husband took business trips to Europe, she tagged along to play tourist while he worked. Other cultures fascinate her and she loves to learn about how other people view the world.

Good thing. She and her family have lived in 9 different states and 4 times zones from the Great Northwest to the Carolinas. She loved them all but tries to make wherever she currently lives her favorite. For now, she calls New England home and regards each of her moves as extended vacations that she just happens to drag all her stuff along on. Someday, she hopes to find where home really is.

  • Pirate Name Contest

When I first had the idea to have a Pirate Name contest on my website, I had no idea my readers would come up with such inventive entries. The final voting for the best Pirate Name is going on right now! Check them out and then cast your vote today!
Pirate Name Finalists! (in no particular order)

    Arabella Du Bois, The Bell
    - I could see this madame of the seas quite clearly, elegant and deadly. She's definitely a lady with a past . . . and maybe a grudge to settle in the future.

Hornswogglin' Holly, Hold onto yer Belongin's
    - This made me laugh! The bag-lady of the Caribbean!

    Stabber Stella, Neurotic Sea Wench
    - She's a terror in a melee, but I bet her mates sleep lightly when she's in the next hammock.

Captain Ian Michael Wycked, "I.M. Wycked"
    - My DH picked this one. He loves puns. Don't tell him I think Ian Michael Wycked sounds sort of sexy, too!

    Greenbeard, aka "Old Moldly"
    - Can we say clever? This entry took a pirate stereotype and gave it such a fun twist.

    Captain Iva Gott Scurvey
    - Any entry that made Diet Coke shoot out my nose had to be included in the finalists.

Captain Billy Blackjack, Butcher of Barbados
    - Loved the alliteration. No wonder my book titles are PLEASURING THE PIRATE, DISTRACTING THE DUCHESS and coming March 2009 VEXING THE VISCOUNT!

    Iron Balls McCormmick
    - There's a picture! Oh! You meant cannon balls? Sorry. My bad. . .

    Captain Sebastian Ashley Bennington
    - A gentleman-turned-pirate, dark, hawkish good looks, a smoky voice, and a wicked hand with a blade. The Scarlet Pimpernel of the Seas.

Captain Greydon Quinn, the Wraith of St. Jude
    - Definitely a ghost pirate here. Almost like an avenging angel, with his halo slightly askew.

Well, there they are. Aren't they terrific? Remember, in this contest YOU can win, too!
When you vote, you're entered in the drawing for winner's choice of my backlist! So pick the pirate of your choice and vote in my PIRATE NAME Contest today! http://www.emilybryan.com/Contest.htm

I'm home from the Romantic Times Convention. Exhausting, but such fun! I met some wonderful people--C. L. Wilson, Christine Feehan, Sue Grimshaw and Tina Trevaskis of Borders, Barbara "The Babs" Vey of PUBLISHERS WEEKLY--I had a ball. And I sold out of DISTRACTING THE DUCHESS at the bookfair! Rock on!
