Dunfanaghy Stables Ltd is located behind Arnold's Hotel, Main Street Dunfanaghy County Donegal in the North West of Ireland.
Dunfanaghy Stables is an AIRE - Association of Irish Riding Establishments- approved riding centre.
Dunfanaghy Stables has been approved as an AIRE Equestrian Tourism Centre 2008/2009

- Hourly Beach Rides
- These rides last for one hour and leave on the hour every hour. The first ride of the day is at 10am and the last ride of the day is at 4pm. Hour rides go down to Dunfanaghy beach and Kilahoey Strand along the waters of Sheephaven Bay. Riders are taken across the sands and through the grassy dunes.We cater for three different levels of experience: NOVICE, INTERMEDIATE and EXPERIENCED.
NOVICE
Novice rides cater for those who have no or little previous experience riding horses. It consists of an hour walking along the beach on your horse, allowing the rider to become accustomed to horseriding.
Suitable for children aged 8yrs and up.
*NOTE* The horses are NOT lead by a member of staff.
INTERMEDIATE
Intermediate rides are for those who have recieved tuition and are comfortable at the rising trot. This ride lasts an hour and consists of walking and trotting on the beach and through the sand dunes.
Suitable for children aged 8yrs and up.
EXPERIENCED
Experienced rides are for thos - 2 hour rides
- The Famine Track
This ride lasts 2 hours, taking riders in to the wild bogs and rugged mountainsides across track and road that were built over 150 years ago during the Great Famine. This ride is suitable for riders who are capable of rising trot and canter.
Horn Head
This ride consists of an hour on the beach and the next our trekking around Horn Head allowing the rider to soak in the beautiful scenery and panoramic views of Sheephaven Bay, Muckish Mountain, Portnablagh and the village itself. This ride is suitable for all levels of experience. - Half-day rides
- The Railway Track
The railway track takes us for exceptional canters along the abandoned railway track which are now overgrown and grazed by flocks of sheep.
Tramore Beach
Tramore is a beautiful secluded beach which is sheltered from people as the only way to get to it is either on foot or by horse. We walk over protected sand dunes. This ride is quite fast and is only for the experienced brave rider. - Lessons
- Lessons are available either as a group of similar ability or private lessons. Private lessons are subject to availibilty during July and August. Lessons cost 15Euro for half an hour. Lessons are taught by our qualified instructor.
- Leadouts
- Children are led by a member of staffonto and around the beach. These rides last for 25/30mins. Adults may accompany children on foot or on horseback, however adults horses are not led.

- Adults (over 18s) - €30 per hour
Children (under 18s) - €25 per hour
