Dooagh Pipe Band was founded on 17th of March 1947 with a membership of 11. Every year, without fail, the band has paraded on St. Patrick's Day even through years when the toll of emigration was heavy in the 1950's and 1960's.
Down the years, equipment and uniforms have been purchased with funds generated by outings, fundraising and donations from the people of Achill, both at home and abroad.

The highlight of the band's year is St. Patrick's Day the 17th of March.. All of the Island's Pipe Bands assemble at the two churches - Pollagh and Dookinella and play for the crowds.

Today, the band has about 50 members and is the largest pipeband on the Island.

    Band practice resumes every Saturday night at 9pm in the Wavecrest.

  • UP AND COMING EVENTS

    New Year's Eve 2008

    Date and Time: 31st December 2008 at 12:00PM
    Venue: Gielty's Dooagh - Pollagh Church.
    Details: The Band will ring in the new year at Gieltys Dooagh and march to Pollagh church for a congregation of the Island's Pipe Bands.

    St. Patrick's Day 2009
    Date and Time: Monday 17th of March 2009 at 8:00 AM
    Venue(s): Molly's, Keelwest, Dooagh
    Details: The highlight of the bands year will kick off at Molly's in Dooagh..The band will march from Keelwest to Pollagh Church and from there to Keel and from Keel to Dookinella Church. The band then marches back home to Dooagh.

    Scoil Acla 2008

    Date/Time : Saturday, 2nd August 2008
    Venue: The Pub, Dooagh
    Details: The band will appear at the annual Scoil Acla Aeríocht at The Pub Dooagh.

    Details:
    The Annual fundraiser for the Dooagh Pipe Band will take place in Gielty's Dooagh on the night after St. Patrick's Day, The 18th of March. Everyone is welcome and a great night is guaranteed. With a Special appearance by the Dooagh Pipe Band.
